She Approved Our Marriage, She Approved Our Divorce Chapter 06

The doctor sighed.

“There will be a dispatch record and a hospital chart. If you’re authorized to access them, Medical Records can help you verify what happened.”

Nathan stood frozen.

The truth was not difficult to find. Before long, the relevant records were in his hands, including

mine.

He stared at my discharge report and turned to the nurse.

“She didn’t ask to end the pregnancy?”

The nurse shook her head.

“There was no heartbeat when she arrived. She had gone without treatment for too long. The doctors had no choice but to induce delivery.”

Nathan could not speak.

Some grief ran too deep for tears.

He entered Maya’s room. She was idly spearing fruit from a bowl and lit up when she saw him.

“Nathan! Finally. I’ve been bored out of my mind. That little cake you bought me before…”

His palm struck her face.

Maya stared at him in disbelief.

“You said you called 911 for Ella. Then why do the records show that her neighbors found her unconscious and called for an ambulance?”

Maya began to tremble.

“Why… why did you suddenly decide to check?”

Nathan gave a hollow laugh.

“You thought I never would?”

“I…”

“Doesn’t pretending to have depression for this long get exhausting?”

“Nathan, I didn’t mean to….

He ignored her and strode out of the room.

Then he found me.

“Did you come to discuss the divorce?” I asked coldly.

Nathan’s eyes reddened.

“I came to apologize.”

“For what?”

“I’m sorry, Ella. I let Maya get away with far too much. I know everything now. She was never depressed, and she lied about calling 911 for you.”

“Now you know. So what?”

His throat tightened.

“Ella, I never meant to betray you.”

I frowned.

“My parents died in a car accident right in front of me. You already know that.

“Maya was the one who stayed with me afterward. I forgot to eat and couldn’t sleep. I kept taking a

blade to my wrists.

“She made a rule that I had to ask her permission before I did anything. Otherwise, I wasn’t allowed

to do it.

“I survived that time partly because she gave me structure when I had none. I kept the habit all

these years. It wasn’t because I was unfaithful to you. It was only a reminder of what got me

through those days.”

I laughed.

“What does any of that have to do with our marriage?”

“What?”

“Why did I have to repay what she did for you? Why did our baby have to pay

Nathan was silent for a moment.

too?”

“Ella, I understand now.”

“What good does that do?”

His eyes filled with pain.

“Will understanding bring our baby back?

“Will it erase what happened outside Mercer Group? You let a crowd film me half-dressed and humiliate me for her. Why would one apology make any of that forgivable?”

Nathan looked at me helplessly.

“What do you want me to do?”

“Divorce. There is no other future for us.”

I turned away.

“Agree to the settlement, or we’ll let the court decide.”

“Ella, I’ll make this right. I promise.”

I kept walking.The doctor sighed.
