You Trusted Her. Now Live as Me Chapter 08

A handsome man Gavin didn’t know was sitting across from me.

We were talking easily, clearly enjoying ourselves.

He said something that made me laugh so hard I covered my mouth as I laughed, my eyes crinkling

at the corners.

Gavin froze where he stood.

Before, Gavin and Sienna had tormented me for three months.

I’d been in terrible shape then, my face always pale.

Half the time, I couldn’t even be bothered to wash my hair.

I looked like a worn–out, neglected housewife who’d been drained of every bit of life.

But now I was bright, confident, and relaxed as I talked to people.

Sunlight streamed through the window and fell across my face.

It was as if I were glowing from the inside out.

Gavin could no longer contain himself.

He strode toward me.

“Nora.”

He reached for my hand, but I pulled away before he could touch me.

Gavin didn’t get angry.

“Nora, can we talk?”

My good mood that morning vanished the instant he appeared.

I sighed.

“Gavin Whitmore, we have nothing to talk about. I left you the divorce papers. That’s my decision. Let’s end this cleanly and go our separate ways.”

Gavin pulled out the agreement and tore it to pieces in front of me.

“Nora, I’m not divorcing you!”

“We’ve been through so much. I know I misunderstood you and hurt you before, but there’s still

me to fix everything.”

“Sienna Blake is going to spend the rest of her life in prison. She’ll never hurt you again.”

“Grandma is still here. And as for the baby… we can have another child. There’s still time for

everything!”

The more Gavin spoke, the more emotional he became.

As if everything I’d endured was something he could simply brush aside as part of the past.

I turned my face away and said nothing.

Gavin tried to reach for me again.

Caleb Foster stepped between us.

“She already said she wants to end things cleanly. There’s no reason to keep bothering her. That’s pretty rude.”

Gavin pulled his hand back, hostility flashing in his eyes.

“Who are you? What gives you the right to interfere in my family business?”

I set my coffee down hard.

“Gavin Whitmore, Mr. Foster isn’t just a customer. He’s my friend. Show him some respect.”

“Otherwise, I have no problem calling the police.”

Gavin stared at me in disbelief.

“Nora, you’d call the police on me because of him?”

“Besides, we were together for five years. Since when do you even have friends?”

What Gavin didn’t know was that Caleb had been my classmate in college.

We’d liked each other back then, but during his sophomore year, he’d gone abroad as an exchange

student.

After that, we’d lost contact.

Then that morning, he’d happened to walk into my café and recognized me immediately.

We’d had a wonderful conversation.

But I had no reason to explain any of that to Gavin.

My voice turned cold.

“Mr. Whitmore, I’ll mail you another settlement agreement. If you keep refusing to sign, I’ll file for

divorce.”

“Please stop interfering with my life.”
