Gavin immediately called me.

The first call went unanswered.

The next wouldn’t even connect.

He couldn’t wait any longer. Ignoring the wound in his chest, he threw back the covers and tried to

get out of bed.

Margaret stopped him at once.

“Gavin, are you insane?”

“You’re seriously injured. Where do you think you’re going?”

“That woman already left you. She doesn’t want you anymore. Are you really going to humiliate yourself for her too?”

Gavin stopped moving, tears sliding from the corners of his eyes.

From beginning to end, Nora Bennett had been the only one who’d ever been humiliated.

He let out a low, unwilling growl.

Margaret gave the nurse a look.

The nurse administered a sedative, and Gavin closed his eyes in despair.

At that moment, I was waiting for my flight at Westbridge International Airport.

Grandma looked like she wanted to say something but hesitated.

“Nora, are we really leaving?”

“Lately, Gavin’s been different with both of us. He was even injured protecting us. I know the Whitmores have always looked down on us, but you’re the two who have to live together. Are you sure you don’t want to think about it one more time?”

I smiled and shook my head.

I couldn’t tell Grandma that the person who had protected her and taken the knife for her had been

me.

Gavin Whitmore was still the man who, for another woman’s sake, had caused Grandma’s death in the previous timeline.

Even though we’d been given another chance at life, I was the one who had saved Grandma this

time.

It had nothing to do with Gavin.

I would never forget the pain of losing Grandma in the previous timeline.

I squeezed her hand and spoke softly.

“Grandma, things between Gavin and me are complicated. What he did to me can never be made

right.”

“Didn’t you say you wanted to retire somewhere peaceful? I’m taking you there now. From now on the two of us will never have to be apart.”

Grandma’s eyes reddened, and she looked visibly moved.

“Okay. I trust you.”

Half an hour later, our plane took off.

Two hours after that, we landed.

Then Grandma and I drove another two hours before reaching Silverbrook, the town I’d chosen.

Life moved slowly there. Flowers and trees seemed to be everywhere, and the air was fresh.

I took a deep breath and felt my entire body relax.

We stopped in front of a small cottage with a garden.

I’d found it beforehand and prepaid two years of rent.

Grandma loved tending flowers and plants, and the garden would give her plenty to do.

The landlord cheerfully helped us carry in our luggage.

He even gave us the flowerpots and gardening tools already in the yard.

Grandma beamed at everything.

Once we’d settled in, I walked to a café not far away.

The employee’s face lit up when he saw the keys in my hand.

“You’re finally here, boss!”

Jamie Cole was the employee I’d kept on when I took over the café.

Silverbrook was known for being peaceful and quiet, so it attracted plenty of tourists.

I smiled and nodded.

“I knew you couldn’t handle all of this alone, so I came to help.”

Jamie looked thrilled.

“You have no idea how busy this place has been. I’ve barely had time to breathe. You kept saying you’d come, and now, almost a month later, you’re finally here.”

I felt a little embarrassed.

“Okay, okay. Since it’s quiet right now, teach me how to make the drinks. When you’re done, take the afternoon off.”

Jamie eagerly grabbed a bag of coffee beans.

“You got it!”
