I Canceled My Wedding and Married Someone Else Chapter 08

“You’re the one who knocked up my daughter!”

Mrs. Larson jabbed a finger at Josh, her voice shrill and relentless.

“You ruined her reputation! A pregnant, unmarried woman living under your roof, if this were back

in our hometown, people would spit on her every time she walked by!”

“Today you owe us one million dollars and a house in this state!”

Mr. Larson chimed in, puffing out his chest. “That’s right! Or I’ll call the police and accuse you of rape!”

Josh had barely set foot back in the country when this madness hit him. He stared at Tiffany, brows drawn tight, his expression darkening with each second.

“You’re saying you’re pregnant with my child?” he asked coldly. “I’ve never slept with you. How the hell would you be pregnant with mine?”

Tiffany’s shoulders shrank. Her parents froze, then turned and slapped her across the face.

“Who’s the father?!” Mrs. Larson screamed. “If he doesn’t pay, I’ll beat you to death myself!”

Josh pinched the bridge of his nose, exhausted. He tried to walk away, but Tiffany grabbed his sleeve, sobbing desperately.

“Josh, the baby is yours! The night Sierra accepted Carl’s proposal… you were drunk. You thought i

was her. We slept together!”

“By the time I found out I was pregnant, you had already left the country!”

She clung tighter, voice breaking.

“Please… please save me one more time. Don’t let them take me away. You don’t want your own child to be killed by his grandparents, do you? This is your first baby…”

Josh’s pupils constricted. Her words hit a wound so raw he never spoke of it. Then his expression

hardened, pitch black with fury.

“Tiffany,” he said, voice low and lethal, “did you forget the apartment had surveillance? Even drunk, I wouldn’t mistake you for her. Look at yourself. You think I’d confuse you with Sierra?”

The cruelty in his tone made Tiffany stagger.

“Because I pitied you,” Josh continued, “I lost Sierra. I lost our baby. You’re a parasite, and I’ve finally stopped being your host. Begone. Don’t ever appear in front of me again.”

“Also, the sixty–six thousand seven hundred dollars I gave you? Return it within a week. If not, you’ll get a taste of prison.”

Without another glance, he turned and left.

When he arrived home and learned Tiffany had been telling everyone the baby was his while living

in the Lopez estate for two months, he nearly tore the house apart.

He changed the repayment deadline to two days.

That night, Carl pretended he knew nothing. He held me in one arm, a book in the other, but his

voice carried the faintest hint of probing curiosity.

“Sierra… if your ex hadn’t cheated, would you have gone back to him?”

I lifted my head and smoothed the faint crease between his brows. Then I leaned up and kissed the

corner of his mouth.

My tone was soft, but resolute. “Carl, whether he cheated or not doesn’t matter anymore. I’m your

fiancée now. I’m not looking back.”

“I know our engagement began as a business alliance, and maybe our foundation isn’t perfect. But I want to move forward with you.”

“If you ever have concerns or frustrations, just tell me directly. I don’t run away.”

Carl’s eyes darkened, heat blooming and focusing all at once. He bent down and crushed his mouth

against mine.

When he finally pulled away, he rested his forehead against mine, breath warm.

“My dear… this is the first time you’ve kissed me.”

My face flushed red. I whispered his name, then kissed him again.

The next time I heard about Tiffany, it was because she couldn’t repay the sixty thousand.

Her parents dragged her, while still five months pregnant, to the predator from the auction, a man

who saw women as trophies to be broken.

The man still hated Josh for breaking his wrist. He took his revenge on Tiffany. She miscarried. The baby was delivered with tiny hands and tiny feet, and no breath.

When the news reached me, I sat in silence for a long time. Carl noticed the way I drifted off. He

wrapped his arms around me.

“This isn’t on you,” he murmured. “She chose the wrong path.”

I nodded, burying my face against his chest. After a long breath, I whispered.

“Carl, I want to start a foundation. Something for girls from poor families, so they can afford college, so they have choices, so money won’t push them into desperation.”

He pressed a soft kiss to my hair and nodded.

“Okay. We’ll build something that outlasts all of this.”
