I Was His Wife, But His Mistress Took My Name Chapter 07

Meanwhile, I was enjoying the sunshine on the beach in the Montavera.

Ryan walked over with a tall, muscular man beside him.

“Vivian, this is my brother. He wanted to thank you for bringing me back safely.”

Ryan was the young man I had met at the Private Psychiatric Facility.

His father, Victor Sterling, owned one of the largest shipping companies in the Montavera and had children.

from multiple relationships.

Three years ago, Ryan was diagnosed with major depressive disorder and was sent back to the Montavera to

recover.

He had been taken care of by his aunt before that.

But he never expected his own half–brother to betray him.

To take away his future inheritance rights, his half–brother bribed his aunt, and the two of them worked together to have Ryan sent to the Private Psychiatric Facility.

Victor Sterling was deeply disappointed in Ryan because of that.

Ryan was kept under strict control and couldn’t contact the outside world or explain what had really

happened.

Until he met me.

After I returned Ryan to the Sterling Family, Victor Sterling gave me a private estate on the spot as a

thank–you gift.

I never expected him to have a brother he was this close to.

I put down my drink and looked at the two brothers.

They looked remarkably alike.

Both had dark hair and sharp, defined features.

But Ryan still carried the restless energy of a young man, while his brother seemed much calmer and more

mature.

He reached out his hand.

“Ms. York, I’m Alex Sterling. It’s a pleasure to meet you.”

“The day you brought Ryan back, I happened to be away on business, so I never had the chance to properly thank you.”

Ryan bumped his brother’s shoulder.

“Brother, her last name is Mercer. Why are you calling her Ms. York?”

Alex looked surprised.

I quickly explained.

“Ryan, I forgot to tell you. Before I left the country, I legally changed my name.”

“I’m using my mother’s last name now.”

“Vivienne York.”

I shook his hand.

“Nice to meet you.”

Only then did Alex relax and smile.

“York is a beautiful name.”

He took the jewelry gift bag from Ryan and handed it to me.

“This is a pink diamond necklace I bought at an auction a few days ago.”

“Ms. York, please accept it as a small token of my gratitude.”

Seeing how carefully and formally he spoke, I couldn’t help but laugh.

Although Alex and Ryan looked almost identical, their personalities couldn’t have been more different.

Ryan acted on impulse.

Alex, on the other hand, was calm and composed.

Even the way he spoke was precise and measured.

Just as I was about to accept his gift, something caught my attention.

A man wearing sunglasses was walking straight toward us.

The weather was hot, and everyone on the beach was wearing swimsuits.

But that man was dressed in a loose, dark–colored shirt.

He slowly raised his hand.

“Watch out-”

I reacted instinctively and pulled Alex toward me.

Bang!

A gunshot rang out.

People on the beach screamed and ran in panic.

Alex reacted instantly.

He wrapped one arm around me to shield me while reaching inside his coat with the other hand and pulling

out a gun.

“Don’t be afraid.”

He covered my eyes with one hand.

I heard several muffled gunshots, followed by even louder screams.

Alex let out a breath.

“It’s over now.”

The sound of police sirens grew closer.

Alex looked at me, his expression shaken.

“Ms. York, you saved my brother once.”

“And now you’ve saved me.”

“If you ever need my help, just ask.”

At that moment, the polite facade he always maintained finally slipped away.

His gaze was bold and burning.

A faint pine scent lingered around us.

His tall figure almost completely surrounded me.

I coughed awkwardly and pulled myself out of his embrace.

“The police are here. We should deal with this first.”

Adrian waited for three days, but he still didn’t receive any news about Vivian.

His assistant had already confirmed that Vivian never boarded the flight to Switzerland.

But at the same time, they still couldn’t find where Vivian had gone.

Because Vivian had purchased tickets for every possible international flight leaving the country during those

three days.

Adrian’s eyes were bloodshot.

He slammed his fist onto the desk.

Regret and frustration twisted painfully inside him.

How could this have happened?

She had promised him.

He had given her fifteen million dollars.

He thought everything would be left in the past.

He never imagined that she would take the money…

and disappear completely.
