My Family Heard My Murderous Thoughts, So the Fake Heiress Called 911 Chapter 06

Hailey looked from Sergeant Reeves to me, completely bewildered.

Sergeant Reeves turned to her. “Ms. Whitmore, you claim Ms. Bennett is a murderer. Do you have evidence?”

Hailey opened her mouth. “She said it herself! She said she’d kill all of us!”

“Did you record it?”

“I…”

“Any eyewitnesses who saw her do anything?”

“We all heard it…”

“Heard what?”

Hailey faltered. She couldn’t say that Mom, Dad, and Nolan had heard my thoughts. If she said that out loud, she’d be the one taken to a psychiatric hospital.

She turned to Mom and Dad. “Dad! Mom! Say something! You heard her too!”

Catherine’s lips moved.

“No.”

Hailey looked hurt, then turned to Nolan. “Nolan?”

He looked at her calmly. “She never said anything like that out loud.”

Hailey’s face went completely white.

Sergeant Reeves’s tone hardened. “Ms. Whitmore, filing a false police report is a crime under state law, especially when the false report involves allegations of a serious felony. If you can’t provide credible

evidence, we’ll take appropriate legal action against you.”

Hailey looked at Sergeant Reeves, then at me, then at Mom and Dad, as if searching for someone to help her.

No one could.

“I’m not lying! You’re all in on this! She paid you off! You’re not even a real cop!” Hailey shrieked.

Sergeant Reeves remained expressionless. He pulled out his police credentials and held them up in front of

her.

“Here’s my badge number. You can call 911 to verify it or file a complaint.”

Hailey didn’t look at the credentials. She stared at me, her eyes red.

“Who are you…?”

Then she suddenly turned to Mom and Dad, her voice sharp.

“You knew all along, didn’t you? You knew who she was! You deliberately didn’t tell me! You deliberately let me call 911! You’re all trying to hurt me!”

Catherine’s eyes reddened. After raising Hailey for more than twenty years, she hadn’t expected Hailey’s first reaction when she felt she’d been wronged to be that everyone was trying to hurt her.

I looked at Hailey.

She looked crazy to me.

Sergeant Reeves gave her one last look.

“Ms. Whitmore, consider this your first warning. If this happens again, I’ll come back and take you into

custody.”

He gestured to the other officer, then turned to me and gave a slight nod.

I nodded back.

Then he left with the other officer.

The front door closed behind them, leaving only the family in the living room.

Hailey stood there, her face streaked with tears. She suddenly turned on me, her shriek turning into a hoarse

shout.

“It’s you! What kind of trick did you use? Mom, Dad! Did you see that? She’s a monster. She’s a…”

Nolan cut her off.

“Hailey, enough.”

She turned on him. “You have some nerve telling me ‘enough’! You’re the one who told me in the study that she was dangerous, that something was wrong with her! And now you…”

Gregory slammed his hand on the table.

“I said enough.”

The living room finally went quiet.

Hailey froze.

Gregory had never once raised his voice at her in twenty years.

Tears streamed down her face.

“You’re all… taking her side…”

“I know I’m not your biokagical daughter, but I’ve been your daughter for twenty years… Before she came back, weren’t we fine?”

“Ever since she came back, everything’s changed…”

Catherine looked at her, and something in her expression began to soften.

More than twenty years together couldn’t simply be discarded overnight.
