Lucien walked calmly to the door and locked it.

The sound echoed through the apartment.
Then he turned back toward me slowly.
The moment our eyes met, my breath caught.
The emotions in his crimson gaze were so intense now that he didn’t even bother hiding them anymore.
Possessiveness.
Relief.
Disbelief.
And beneath all of it—
Something frighteningly deep.
“They’re bad people,” he said quietly.
“I don’t like them.”
I nodded immediately.
“I know.”
“Vanessa is my stepmother, and Ethan’s her nephew. They were trying to pressure me into marrying him.”
Lucien lowered his head slightly.
His breathing sounded uneven.
“The man you mentioned at the store before…”
“Was it him?”
“Yeah,” I admitted softly.
“But I really don’t like him anymore.”
For some reason, saying those words out loud made me weirdly nervous.
Lucien suddenly stepped closer.
One step.
Then another.
Until my back hit the wall behind me.
My heartbeat instantly sped up.
“Then who do you like?”
His voice dropped lower.
“You kissed me just now.”
“And before that, you kept staring at me every time you came into the store.”
He leaned down slightly, eyes fixed on mine.
“Why?”
I froze completely.
A quiet laugh escaped his throat near my ear.
“I noticed you looking at me a long time ago.”
“And honestly…”
His gaze slid downward briefly before returning to my face.
“You really like my chest and my ass, don’t you?”
I almost choked on air.
Lucien’s ears were visibly red now, but he still forced himself to continue speaking.
“Annie… I don’t care whether you like me because of my body or because of who I am.”
“As long as you stay with me, that’s enough.”
His fingers tightened slightly against the wall beside my head.
“And I won’t force you into anything.”
“If one day you get tired of me, we can break up whenever you want.”
He paused.
Then asked quietly—
“So…”
“Will you think about dating me?”
The final note in his voice hit directly against my chest.
My heart tingled so hard it almost hurt.
The floating comments instantly lost their minds.
“LOOK AT THIS MAN acting confident while his hands are literally shaking.”
“He genuinely thinks Annie only likes him because she writes monster smut. HELP.”
“Do you guys know he practiced this confession speech for TWO WEEKS? Every rehearsal ended with him blushing.”
“Character development! Last time his whole face turned red. This time it’s only his ears.”
“Also that ‘we can break up anytime’ line is COMPLETE bullshit. If Annie says yes, this incubus is emotionally marrying her for life.”
“He’d absolutely drag her into his nest and keep her there forever.”
“And honestly? Respect.”
I physically could not look directly at the comments anymore.
But when I glanced back at Lucien—
…his ears really were bright red.
Completely at odds with his sharp, beautiful face.
This man really was a secretly repressed disaster.
I suddenly wanted to tease him.
So I leaned forward slightly and blew softly against his ear.
“Okay,” I whispered.
“Let’s date.”
Lucien went completely still.
I smiled a little.
“Actually… I kind of fell for you the first time I saw you.”
“Really?”
The look on his face was almost heartbreaking.
Pure disbelief.
Pure hope.
Like he couldn’t even process hearing something that good.
I leaned up and kissed his cheek lightly.
“Really.”
“You believe me now?”
The next second—
Two sharp fangs suddenly slid out beside his lips.
I blinked in shock.
Then pain twisted briefly across Lucien’s face.
A violent rush of dark energy exploded behind him—
And enormous black wings burst open across the apartment.
They nearly filled the entire room.
At the same time, a long black tail whipped out behind him, the hooked tip immediately curling possessively around my waist.
Lucien looked horrified.
His voice shook as he covered my eyes with one hand.
“Annie. Don’t look.”
Too late. I’d already seen everything.
My gaze traveled slowly upward—
Massive black wings.
Sharp horns.
Tail wrapped tightly around my waist.
And a body so unfairly beautiful it barely looked human anymore.
Before I could stop myself, the words slipped out naturally.
“…Wow. It’s huge.”
