I Saw Comments Saying I Would Die Alone After the Fourth Divorce Chapter 06

His thumb moved to decline the call – the way he always did. Then he saw the name on the screen.

He went completely still. I already knew what was coming.

It still left a bitter taste in my mouth. I rolled over. “Just answer it.”

Two beats passed in silence. Then he picked up.

I couldn’t make out the words, but I heard enough – Audrey was crying.

Julian was on his feet before she’d even hung up. He dressed in the dark, came back to the bed, and

pressed his lips to my forehead. “Something came up. I’m sorry.’

I didn’t answer. A moment later, the front door clicked shut.

The comments lit up.

[The FL got cornered by a client who kept pushing drinks on her at a business dinner, and the ML dropped EVERYTHING to save her! Left the villainess alone in bed without a second thought – so

satisfying!]

[Tonight’s the night the FL gets drugged, and the ML has to “save” her, and then they… you know]

[Even though the ML and the villainess aren’t divorced yet, the FL’s baby gets conceived tonight.

Don’t worry, it all works out. That baby is the FL’s golden ticket.]

All the air left my lungs. I couldn’t get it back.

Then the suffocation turned to rage. Why was I sitting here letting a bunch of delusional comments

comments that painted a homewrecker as the heroine – write my story for me?

I refused to buy this. I was going to stop it.

I grabbed my phone and called Julian.

I called once. Twice. By the fifth time, he still hadn’t answered.

The comments turned vicious.

[Wtf is wrong with the villainess?? She never calls the ML, acts all high and mighty, and NOW she’s blowing up his phone?! Wait – can she see the comments or something?]

[So what if she can? The ML and FL are endgame, the baby’s on the way, and the villainess’s time is almost up anyway!]

[Exactly lol, the ML is a little busy with the FL in bed right now – he’s definitely not picking up!]

I sat there with my hand over my chest. It wasn’t a sharp pain, just a dull, hollow ache – enough for

me to know something was breaking.

I might have been slow, but I wasn’t stupid.

If I couldn’t stop it, I could at least make sure I didn’t walk away empty-handed.

I exhaled, picked up the phone, and called my lawyer. I promised him triple his emergency retainer

if he could get a divorce agreement into my hands by morning.

I sat in the living room all night. I didn’t move. I didn’t sleep. I just waited. The lock turned

sometime around dawn.

Julian came through the door rubbing his forehead, exhaustion all over him. He stopped when he saw me sitting there.

“You’re up? You never get up before noon.”

He was close enough now for me to smell it – body wash. Not his. Something fruity, unfamiliar. The last thread of hope I’d been clinging to snapped.

I didn’t answer. I held out the divorce papers.

“Julian. Let’s just end this.”
