He Took Me For Weak And Helpless Chapter 12

He Took Me For Weak And Helpless Chapter 12

When the plane touched down smoothly at the foreign airport, Summer let out a quiet breath.

The Carter patriarch’s people were already waiting outside. They drove her all the way to a quiet little town by the sea.

There were no familiar chains here, no suffocating surveillance, and no Adrian with that cold, obsessive stare.

No one here knew who she was. No one looked at her with curiosity or suspicion. For the first time in what felt like forever, she could finally live like an ordinary person.

Because of her leg, the patriarch had also arranged for her to stay at a local rehabilitation center with peaceful surroundings, where she could receive proper treatment.

The doctor overseeing her recovery was Dr. Ethan Shaw, an American physician with a calm, clean-cut presence and a gentle voice. He never pried into her past.

During her first rehab session, Summer’s legs gave out beneath her, and she nearly fell, but Ethan caught her

in time.

“Take it slow. Don’t rush it. Your body needs time to heal.”

He never forced her to do anything, and he never spoke to her in a commanding tone.

Before every session, he carefully adjusted the level of intensity to what she could handle.

Every time pain made her wince, he would soothe her softly.

Even when she drifted off into silence, he would simply stay nearby and hand her a cup of warm water.

He was nothing like Adrian.

Where Adrian had been overpowering, Ethan made her feel safe enough to let herself relax.

As the days passed, Summer gradually regained strength in her legs under Ethan’s careful treatment, until

she could finally walk along the beach on her own.

Everything that had happened before began to feel like a nightmare she had never been able to wake from.

But now, this life without fear, without shackles, was slowly pulling her out of the dark.

Ethan knew she hated noise, so he took her to quiet paths along the shore. He knew her stomach was

delicate, so he taught her how to make meals that were easy on it. He knew she struggled to sleep at night,

so he made her calming herbal tea.

One evening, Summer was sitting alone by the water, watching the sunset, when Ethan quietly sat down

beside her and held out a light blanket.

“It’s windy. Don’t catch a chill.”

Summer took it with a soft thank-you, her eyes still resting on the distant line of the horizon.

“If you don’t want to talk about the past, you don’t have to,” Ethan said gently. “But you should remember this.

You deserve to be treated well. You deserve to be cherished.”

His words made her eyes sting.

When she had been with Adrian, she had always been the one expected to bend.

He gave her the best money could buy, but took away her freedom and her dignity. He kept calling it love, but all he had done was push her to the edge of a breakdown.

Ethan, on the other hand, gave her the two things she had lacked the most: safety and respect.

Without even realizing it, the way she looked at Ethan began to change. There was a quiet dependence there

now.

She started telling him little stories about the town. She told him how rehab felt, what progress she was making, what hurt and what didn’t. When he had night duty, she would quietly bring him a meal.

And in those ordinary days, they grew more in sync with each other, and something warmer, something closer to romance, began to grow between them.

By the time Summer was nearly recovered, she and Ethan had grown much closer.

That evening, as they took their usual walk by the ocean, Ethan suddenly stopped in his tracks. He turned to face her, his eyes full of an affection he could no longer hide.

“When you’ve fully recovered, I want to take you up into the hills to see the wildflower fields,” he said, smiling softly. “It’s quiet there. I think you’d love it.”

Summer nodded lightly, a faint smile curving her lips before she could stop it.

“I’m getting discharged next week. When that happens, let’s go together. Consider it… my way of thanking you for taking such good care of me.”
