He Took Me For Weak And Helpless Chapter 07

He Took Me For Weak And Helpless Chapter 07

The corridor outside the hospital room was washed in a harsh, ghostly white light. Adrian leaned against the cold wall, his fingers rubbing absently over the edge of his phone again and again.

He had arranged everything perfectly.

There should have been no way for Summer to escape.

And yet, every time he pictured the woman inside that room, clutching her child’s ashes with those dead, empty eyes, his whole body tightened until even breathing felt painful.

He didn’t want to treat her like this.

He wanted to give her the best of everything. He wanted to keep her locked securely by his side. He wanted her eyes and her heart to belong to him alone.

But she kept trying to run.

She kept resisting.

She kept looking at him with that cold, distant gaze.

“Adrian.”

A soft, delicate voice came from behind him. Lola approached slowly with a thermos in her hand, the hem of her dress brushing lightly across the floor, a carefully measured smile on her face.

“I made you something nourishing. You’ve been exhausted lately. Drink some before you wear yourself out over someone who doesn’t even matter.”

Adrian shifted away from her without hesitation. His face was utterly cold. “Who told you to come here?”

Lola immediately lowered her eyes and put on a wounded expression, one hand drifting gently to her slightly rounded stomach. “I was worried about you, and about Summer too. She’s still not well, so I thought I’d come see if there was anything I could do. I’m pregnant too, so I can understand better than most how hard this must be for her.”

She deliberately brought up the baby, trying to stir his sympathy with the child she carried.

In her eyes, Summer was nothing more than a caged pawn. All Lola had to do was push a little harder, and Adrian would eventually grow to despise that woman completely.

But instead of softening, Adrian’s face only turned darker.

“This is none of your concern. Go back to the villa.”

“Adrian…” Lola’s eyes reddened. “I just want to stay with you. Summer only ever thinks about leaving you. She doesn’t appreciate anything you do for her. Why can’t you let her go? The baby and I are the ones who really want to spend our lives with you.”

“My business is none of yours,” Adrian said flatly. “Stay in your place. Don’t come here bothering me, and

don’t go near her.”

At those words, hatred surged through Lola’s chest.

He was still protecting Summer.

What was so special about that useless woman?

She forced her anger down and kept her voice soft. “I know you’re hurting, but waiting outside like this won’t change anything. If she really knew how to behave, she wouldn’t keep trying to run. Adrian, stop torturing yourself over her, okay?”

Adrian didn’t answer. He lit a cigarette, and all he could think about was the cold question Summer had thrown at him at the birthday banquet.

Do you actually want a lover, or do you just want an obedient dog?

The words lodged themselves deep in his heart.

He couldn’t pull them free, and he couldn’t dull their edge.

He only wanted to keep her with him.

Was that really so wrong?

At that thought, he grabbed his keys and drove to the hospital like a man possessed.

He had to see her.

He had to know what she was doing right now.

The second he arrived, he impatiently ordered someone to open the door for him.

But the moment he saw the room inside, Adrian’s expression changed abruptly.

The hospital room was empty.

Summer was gone.

Adrian slammed his fist into the wall so hard the skin on the back of his hand split open.

“Summer! How dare you run!”
