Nathaniel looked at me. “Do you regret it?”

I looked him in the eye. And for the first time in my life, I couldn’t lie.

“…I don’t regret it.”

The words surprised me more than they surprised him.

His fingers tightened on the blanket. His ears went red again. Impossibly red.

The air between us turned thick and warm.

I gave myself exactly three seconds. Then my brain kicked back in, tangled in knots.

Feelings were feelings. But work was work.

I took a deep breath.

“Mr. Ashford, this was… this was a lapse in judgment. I’ll find a place and move out immediately.”

Nathaniel’s expression went flat. “You can’t move out.”

“What?”

“You cried last night. You refused to let go of me.”

“Just stay. Sleep here. Wouldn’t that be easier?”

He tugged the blanket aside as he spoke. The bite marks on his collarbone were impossible to miss.

I tried to smother the flutter in my chest. “I can’t…”

But Nathaniel, so casually it had to be deliberate, let his robe fall open a little further.

“You also said this was your favorite place to be.”

“Sharing my bed. Is it really that terrible?”

I stared at his abs. Defined. Ridiculous. My mouth went dry.

I’d been looking at this man for a year. A girl had limits.

So yeah. I hesitated. Pathetically.

The bed was huge. And warm. And he smelled really, really good.

“…Fine. But this is temporary.”

We never slept apart again.

Every night I crawled into his bed. It was too big, too soft, too warm to resist.

Nathaniel was more than accommodating. Meaning, the second I reached for him, he’d strip without a word of protest and let me have my way.

Every night, I’d forget he was my boss. And every night, I’d fall for him all over again.

The receptionist’s looks got more knowing by the day. I laughed it off every time.

I told myself it was an arrangement. Mutual convenience. Not love. Definitely not love.
