Oops! My Billionaire Boss Fell for Five Versions of Me! Chapter 01

I’m the best assistant Nathaniel Ashford has ever had.

My boss cycled through women the way most people cycled through coffee orders. So when he walked in one morning with a man on his arm, I did what I always did.

I delivered the line I’d rehearsed at least seven times a year. Only this time, I had to swap out a pronoun.

“You’re the first man Mr. Ashford has ever brought to the office.”

Nathaniel’s expression went flat.

“Try using your eyes. This is my uncle.”

Oh. Oh wow. The taboo-romance trope. In the flesh.

My running-on-four-hours-of-sleep brain had zero filters left.

Before I could stop myself, the words were already out. “Wow, you’ve really pushed the boundaries this time.”

Nathaniel looked like he was choosing between firing me and ending me. His uncle, meanwhile, looked thoroughly entertained.

The words hit my own ears about two seconds too late.

Damage control. Now.

“Sir, what I meant was, the two of you standing together… the family resemblance is just so striking. I was overwhelmed.”

Even I didn’t buy it.

You don’t become CEO before thirty by being gullible. He narrowed his eyes, his voice dropping into something lethal.

“What’s your name?”

Ah. Here we go.

I sighed. “Mabel.”

“Mabel, you’re fired.”

Gotta hand it to him. The man didn’t waste a syllable.

I watched him stalk off, crossing my arms.

The receptionist grabbed my arm. “Harper, oh my god, are you okay? What are you gonna do?”

I adjusted my glasses. “Didn’t you hear Mr. Ashford? Fire Mabel, apparently.”

I’m Harper Hayes. I’m not Mabel Jenkins.
