Oops! My Billionaire Boss Fell for Five Versions of Me! Chapter 11

The harder I hustled, the quieter Nathaniel got.

I was always running somewhere, always working on something. He must’ve thought I was broke.

So he never haggled at the cart. He paid full price for everything-water, fruit, coffee-without blinking.

He even started giving me what he called “girlfriend gifts.”

“Here. This bag’s nice. The quality’s great.”

“Someone gave me this watch. I don’t need it.”

“This necklace would look good on you. Wear it to the next banquet.”

I took every single one without an ounce of guilt.

Why pretend to be humble? Feeling sorry for a billionaire? That’s the real crime. For as long as this gig lasted, I was taking everything that wasn’t nailed down.

Everything was going according to plan.

Then my landlord shoved my rent money back into my hands.

“My nephew’s getting married. He needs the place. You have to go today.”

He said it like it was nothing. Like where I was supposed to sleep tonight was none of his concern.

I’d spent three weeks finding that room. Cheap, quiet, close to the office, month-to-month lease.

The wind cut right through me. I sat on my suitcase outside a convenience store for five minutes,

running through my options.

A cheap motel, too sketchy. A 24-hour diner, too loud. Crashing with a friend, too embarrassing.

I’d camp out at a diner booth for the night and start looking again tomorrow.

The warmth inside hit me the second I sat down. Before I could even unzip my jacket, someone rapped on the window.

I looked up. Nathaniel. Black coat, breath coming fast, rainwater dripping from his coat.

His eyes dropped to the suitcase. His jaw tightened.

“Follow me.”

I didn’t even get a word out before he took my bags. No hesitation. No discussion.

I followed him to the car in a daze.

By the time my brain caught up, I was standing in his house.

His house was enormous. The kind of place where you’d hear your own echo if you screamed.

The entryway glowed with warm amber light, and the whole place smelled faintly of cedar. /

A butler appeared at the foot of the stairs. He spotted me behind Nathaniel and froze for a solid

three seconds.

Then his whole face crinkled into a grin.

“Mr. Ashford, you’ve finally brought someone home. I haven’t seen you smile like this in years.”

I stared at the floor. No words.

Did every CEO’s butler come preloaded with that line?

The butler kept glancing at me like I was the answer to a prayer.

I tilted my head and studied him. Nice uniform. Easy hours. Probably good pay.

I could do that job.

Add it to the list. Add it to the list. Add it to the list.

The butler shuddered under my gaze and took a step

back.
