He Left Me in the Snow for His First Love. So I Left His Marriage Chapter 04

He Left Me in the Snow for His First Love. So I Left His Marriage Chapter 04

The next morning, I got ready to leave.

Ethan waited by the door.

“I have a meeting at your company today. Want to go together?”

Our two companies currently had a joint project.

I picked up my car keys.

“People at my company don’t know about us. It wouldn’t look good if they saw. Let’s go separately.”

Ethan was silent for a moment.

“Okay.”

During the meeting, I sat far away from Ethan.

When the manager started making polite opening remarks, the Slack group chat lit up.

“My God, Mr. Pierce is even hotter up close. I’m so jealous of his wife!”

“Please. Instead of envying his wife, envy his first love. She just came back and got placed right by his side as his secretary. I heard her place is one of Mr. Pierce’s properties too. What a life.”

“You can still find photos of his first love from years ago on Mr. Pierce’s Instagram. They broke up and he still couldn’t delete them. But have you ever seen one photo of his wife?”

“What? Then why didn’t he marry his first love?”

“I heard she was the one who broke up with him. Internal gossip says that when they split, Mr. Pierce couldn’t even focus on business. He chased her overseas to ask for another chance and apparently got into a fight with someone. A passerby even photographed him standing on a street with flowers, totally wrecked. He looked insanely beautiful, though.”

“[Photo] I saved it.”

“Gorgeous. I could stare all day. He was so thin back then, right? He looked almost unrecognizable.”

“He got married less than a year later. Maybe he was heartbroken and just chose someone random. But who can forget a love that intense? His first love shows up again, and suddenly she’s his personal assistant. We all know what that means.”

“We all know.”

I put down my phone and turned to look at Ethan, who was speaking with the manager.

For a moment, my mind drifted.

So he had once had a love that dramatic.

He had fought someone without caring about his image.

He had lost control and chased someone overseas.

When Ethan and I were together, we fought sometimes too.

He was always calm.

Calmly watching me get angry.

Calmly telling me to calm down.

“Claire, this won’t solve anything.”

“We’ll talk when you’ve calmed down.”

Once, I was so angry that I told him, then let’s break up.

He only froze for a second.

Then he said, “Okay.”

He turned and left.

No more messages.

No contact.

As if he had truly disappeared and everything was over.

I cried every day until a rainstorm hit one week later.

I called him, unable to control the sob in my voice.

“Ethan, I regret it.”

Over the phone, I heard him draw in a deep breath.

An hour later, someone knocked on my door.

He was soaked from head to toe, a mess in a way I had never seen before.

He held me tight.

“Claire, don’t say breakup so easily.”

“Don’t… say it again.”

That was the most out of control I had ever seen him.

Back then, I thought a man as calm as him had to love me if he could lose himself that way.

Now, looking at the links in the Slack chat and tracing his past with Olivia, I realized how little I had known.
