He Wrapped Me Up for His Crush. Now I Live in His Head. Chapter 10

My life at Briarwood Prep slowly settled down.

The new classmates were friendly. No one knew my past.

In their eyes, I was just a regular transfer student.

Good grades. Quiet personality. That was it.

Zoe became my best friend. She was bold and always looked out for me.

“Avery, want to play badminton after school? Avery, help me with this problem! Avery, your skin is amazing!”

She was loud every day, like a happy little bird.

She introduced me to new friends and helped me fit in. I gradually let my guard down.

I started to believe not everyone would hurt me. I deserved to be treated well.

The new school’s atmosphere was great. Everyone focused on studying.

No messy cliques. No cruel jokes. Teachers were dedicated. Classmates were kind.

My grades kept improving.

I took first place in the regional math competition and made it to the finals in speech.

Ms. Reynolds often praised me.

“Avery makes our class proud.”

My classmates were genuinely happy for me. No jealousy. No exclusion. Only sincere congratulations.

Turns out life could be this simple. Not everywhere was full of malice.

One day during break.

Zoe came over mysteriously.

“Avery, Ethan Brooks from the next class keeps asking about you.”

“Ethan?”

I was confused.

“You know, the basketball captain.”

“Tall guy, like six foot one.”

“So many girls like him.”

Zoe’s eyes sparkled with gossip.

I shook my head. “Don’t know him.” I really didn’t.

Since coming here, I’d only focused on studying. I hadn’t paid attention to any basketball captain.

“Oh come on, he’s the one who helped you carry books last week.”

Now that she mentioned it, I remembered. Last week when moving new books.

A tall guy from the next class offered to help. He had a bright smile.

“Thanks,” I’d said.

“No problem,” he replied, ears turning red.

That was it.

“Why is he asking about me?”

Zoe wiggled her eyebrows.

“What do you think? He obviously likes you. Our Avery is so pretty. Totally normal for her to catch a hot guy’s eye.”

I froze.

Someone liked me?

For real?

Not like Logan, treating me as a convenient accessory.

Not taking it for granted that I’d always follow him.

But carefully asking around. Shyly helping out.

“Don’t overthink it.”

I said.

But something inside me quietly shifted.

Turns out I could be liked too.

Turns out I deserved to be cherished.
