He Chose His Son Over His Mafia Queen Chapter 06

He couldn’t.

My brother was currently cruising down the highway at eighty miles per hour.

“Slow down,” I muttered. “I’m getting car sick.”

Cassian clicked his tongue, easing off the gas.

“You’re impossible to please. And here I am, flying all the way out just to back you up.”

“I told you the moment that kid showed up that he would bring nothing but trouble. But did you listen to your brother? No.”

I lowered my head, my eyes burning.

“It’s not as easy as you think.”

Three months ago, Sofia had abandoned Marco at the gates of the Ferraro estate.

She was clever-she didn’t show her face, sending a child who was the spitting image of Matteo to knock on

the door instead.

That night, Matteo and I had a screaming match.

After all, Sofia had run away with his baby, and bringing him back now could only mean one thing-she

wanted him back.

At the height of our argument, a sharp pain shot through my stomach, and I made up my mind to get an

abortion.

Matteo had wrapped his arms around me from behind, a single tear falling onto my collarbone.

“Freya, I only found out about Marco today,” he had whispered “I’m a victim here, too. Please, just try to understand…”

Knowing exactly how to manipulate my vulnerabilities, he had made a solemn vow.

ľ

“Freya, only your children will ever inherit the Ferraro empire. That woman’s kid will be nothing but a permanent stain on my life.”

Too bad he underestimated the pull of his own blood.

And too bad I overestimated the strength of our marriage.

Cassian glanced at the rearview mirror.

Seeing the tears welling up in my eyes, his tone instantly softened.

“Alright, alright, don’t cry, Freya. I’m taking you back to New York for some good food.”

“As for that bastard Matteo, he has a lot coming for daring to touch my sister.”

I gave a quiet nod.

There was only one flight left to New York today.

To make sure Matteo couldn’t pull any tricks, Cassian had booked out every remaining seat, allowing us to

breeze through airport security.

In the distance, a faint voice seemed to be calling my name.

The wind was too loud, so I chose to ignore it.

Once we were back in New York, Cassian pulled a few strings to keep Matteo trapped upstate, unable to

leave.

For the first time in months, I enjoyed some actual peace and quiet.

By the time I recovered and returned to the office, Cassian was already waving his phone, proudly showing

off his latest handiwork.

“Look at this,” he smirked. “Watch how your brother plays Matteo like a stray dog.”

I took the phone and scrolled through the screen.

This year marked a brutal shakeup in the tech industry, and with the Moretti family withdrawing all investments, the Ferraro group’s cash flow had completely collapsed.

The entire conglomerate was on the brink of ruin.

The key executives who could have saved them from this crisis were the exact people I had taken with me.

I hadn’t spent my three years of marriage sitting idle.

The Moretti loyalists had been embedded deep within the Ferraro infrastructure like structural pillars. Pulling them out meant the entire empire was going down.

Cassian had already warned the street; no one dared to cross him by helping Matteo.

It took nearly two months before Matteo finally managed to clear his schedule and fly to New York.

I took off my sunglasses, calmly looking at the man standing before me.

“Freya, it’s me,” he whispered.

For some unfathomable reason, he had brought Marco along with him.

Before I could even speak, Cassian caught wind of their arrival and stormed out.

Matteo’s jaw clenched at the sight of him, though he still gave a polite nod.

But as far as I was concerned, we were past the point of basic pleasantries. He wasn’t even worth a glass of

tap water.

Cassian’s eyes darkened, his knuckles cracking with a sickening pop.

“What the hell are you still doing here, you piece of trash?”

Matteo’s gaze remained locked on me, thick with sorrow.

“I just wanted to see Freya.”

Cassian spat a curse. “You don’t get to say her name.”

“We aren’t divorced yet,” Matteo replied quietly.

Cassian grabbed a golf club from the rack, a sinister grin spreading across his face.

“In that case, as your brother-in-law, it’s only right I teach you some manners.

He looked at Marco, then at me. “Kid, look away. You too, Freya.”

I let out a helpless smile.

My brother was a loose cannon, but he always got the job done, and I trusted him to handle this.

As I turned to walk back to my room, I felt a tiny shadow following behind me.

He grabbed my doorknob, his bright, teary eyes looking up at me.

“M… Mommy.”
