He Chose His Son Over His Mafia Queen Chapter 02

Matteo paused, letting out a sharp, ambiguous scoff.

“Just because of a kid?”

“I know you hate Marco, and I know you’ve been wary of his mother.”

“But I told you, you will always be my only wife. Why get jealous over a woman who poses absolutely no threat?”

He always referred to Marco’s mother as ‘that woman.’

But he had no idea what a woman would do for her child.

The day I fell, Marco’s remote-controlled car had driven right under my feet.

I was five months pregnant then, burdened by a blind spot in my vision, and tumbled straight down the stairs.

I still remembered Marco’s eyes.

Panic, fear, and a faint, barely perceptible trace of delight.

Clutching his smartwatch, his soft voice trembled, “Mommy, she’s bleeding so much…”

The woman on the other end of the line lowered her voice.

“Wait a little longer before calling for help.”

“Marco, listen to me. You can never let her give birth to a little brother or sister.”

“Only then will everything your Papa owns belong to you in the future.”

“When that day comes, Mommy can rightfully return to your Papa’s side…”

The house was packed with security cameras.

Matteo was a deeply calculated man; it was impossible for him not to know.

He just chose not to.

He would always harbor a different kind of sentiment for the boy’s birth mother, purely for the sake of his son.

On the day I was discharged, the nurse gave me a strange look.

“Where is your husband?”

I looked down at my phone.

Matteo had texted a few minutes ago: [Marco says his mommy is sick.]

[Don’t worry, I won’t go see her. I’m just arranging a doctor for her.]

I closed my eyes, letting out a long breath.

“My husband is dead.”

The nurse blinked, then smiled with instant understanding. “Congratulations.”

Once my body recovered, I began liquidating my assets.

Six years ago, the Moretti family had invested a whopping nine hundred million dollars into the Ferraro family for this marriage alliance.

Splitting those assets was no easy task.

I walked out of the corporate office holding a thick stack of documents, getting caught in a traffic jam on my way back.

My car ground to a halt right in front of a private kindergarten.

“Papa! You came to pick me up today!”

Gripping the steering wheel, I caught sight of Marco diving into the back seat through my rearview mirror.

This was Matteo’s car.

The boy had jumped in without even looking.

The moment he realized I was the one in the driver’s seat, his face turned stark white.

“Ah… Auntie Freya…”

Right then, a woman rushed to the back, pulling him tightly into her arms.

Her face was twisted with panic, looking exactly like a wild beast protecting her cub.

“What are you trying to do? Why are you trying to take my child away!”

“You lost your own baby, but don’t take it out on mine! Marco didn’t do it on purpose!”

I narrowed my eyes.

I recognized her. Sofia, Marco’s birth mother.

Marco’s eyes darted around before he buried his face in her chest.

“Mommy, when you weren’t around, this lady always hit me!”

“She starved me and wouldn’t let me get close to Papa!”

Sofia’s eyes widened.

“How can you be so cruel? How could you abuse my child! He might not be your own flesh and blood, but he’s the baby I raised with all my sweat and tears…”

The surrounding area was packed with mothers picking up their kids.

Hearing this, they got so furious they started hurling their groceries at my car, shouting over one another.

“Ugh, a stepmother can never match a birth mother. She’s just bullying the kid because his real mom isn’t around!”

“Exactly! Look at that woman’s permed hair. You just know she’s some gold-digging homewrecker who screwed her way to the top and replaced the real mother!

Sofia held Marco, sobbing as if she were the ultimate victim.

I rolled up the windows, thoroughly annoyed, and grabbed a few tissues to wipe my hair.

I sent Matteo a text: “Get over here.”

It showed as read, but there was no reply.

I followed up with another line: “Marco’s preschool.”

He instantly picked up the location pin.

In less than ten minutes, a black bulletproof Rolls-Royce pulled up right at the academy gates.
