Taming the Stubborn Alpha: His Tears Were Fake, But His Love Was Real Chapter 06

Taming the Stubborn Alpha: His Tears Were Fake, But His Love Was Real Chapter 06

Evander kept me tangled up with him for three straight days, from the bedroom to the bathroom, and back again

A shifter in heat was restless beyond belief

Over and over, he’d lock me in his arms, lean in close

and demand I swear I only wanted him

If I didn’t say it, he cried

His tears fell against my chest, onto the sheets, everywhere

At one point, I genuinely felt like I might drown in

them

And even while he was whimpering, he was holding on even tighter

At this rate, I was honestly worried he might faint one day from dehydration

Finally, three days later, his heat came to an end

As I got up to get dressed, Evander sat on the bed wrapped tightly in the blanket, utterly lost

Now that he had calmed down, everything from the past three days must have come rushing back. Especially the way he had begged

His world had probably just collapsed

I turned around, with one hand on my aching lower

back, and stared at the blanket burrito in silence for a long beat

So, uh”

Get out.His voice was muffled

If I pulled the blanket away, I would probably find his

ears flushed red

Alright.I nodded and picked up my coat, then

walked out without hesitation

He definitely hadn’t seen that coming

The moment the bedroom door closed, I heard soft

stifled sobs from inside

The comments popped up again

[Girl, you still don’t get it? With a guy like him, no‘

means yesand get outmeans stay.

[Right after heat, they’re actually really sensitive. They

need someone to stick around. Comfort them. It’s like…

aftercare.

[He’s just sitting there now. Seems like he’s replaying

Thinking about her walking out like that. And he’s

quietly falling apart.”

I squinted at the comments. Then I went downstairs

anyway

The second my butt hit the living room sofa, my phone

started buzzing

[Miss Hartwell, have you told Mr. Thornton about the match rating yet?

[If you are unsure how to bring it up, we can inform Mr.

Thornton directly.

I stared at the message for a long time before finally

typing a reply

[Go ahead.

I didn’t think we would actually get divorced. And

didn’t care much about that five percent difference. But

Evander still deserved to know

Right as I hit send, footsteps sounded from the stairs

Evander came down, fully dressed now. His gaze

flickered when he spotted me

He stood there hesitating foreverand right when he finally opened his mouth, his phone went off

As he answered the call, his face grew paler and paler

He looked at me, his eyes filled with panic and

disbelief

Whoever was on the other end kept talking, but I just

looked down at my own phone

The Bureau of Supernatural Control had sent another

message

The young lion wanted to meet me. They asked if I was willing

I raised an eyebrow

Looking at the man standing across from me, his face drained of color, a wicked thought crept into my mind

Sure. Why not meet him

I stood up and started toward the door

I’d barely made it two steps before his voice stopped

  1. me

Where are you going?”

Evander had already hung up. He looked at me, panic

written all over his face

The Bureau said they wanted to talk to me.”

You’re not going! His voice broke as he rushed

forward and grabbed my wrist

Cressida, you’re not going! If you walk out that door,

swear to God I’ll kill myself right here!”

His grip tightened, his eyes filled with desperation

Cressida. Please. Don’t go.”

I need to tell you something. About what just

happened-”

I already know.I cut him off

What did you say?”

He stared at me in disbelief, his grip on my wrist

tightening even more

The Bureau contacted me three days ago.”

I glanced at the time, already losing patience

Look, I know you’ve always wanted a divorce. Fine. I’ll

give you that.”

But before we do this, you could at least let me line up

my next match first.”

I lifted my phone slightly, showing him the chat with

the Bureau

The second his eyes landed on that screen, his whole

face went dark. His grip went slackjust enough

I turned and walked away

Behind me, he stood in the living room, gloom

radiating from him

Above his head, the comments buzzed with excitement

[Welp. There it is. The divorce you wanted.

[He’s losing it, right? She just agreed to a divorce. Why

not smiling? LOL

[Dude’s tears? A flood.]
