The Luna Beyond His Reach Chapter 09

The Luna Beyond His Reach Chapter 09

Theron didn’t know how long he sat outside the hospital.

His phone lit up. Sienna.

He flung the phone away with disgust, unwilling to hear her voice another second.

His mind reeled back to Rhea’s parting words, the venomous taunts, the smug provocation, that chilling promise, “She’ll know soon enough.”

Well, now he knew.

And so did Rhea.

The cost of that knowledge was Rhea’s life.

A black car pulled up. Sienna got out, her face anxious.

“Theron! There you are! Are you okay?”

She reached for him.

Theron wrenched his hand free from her grip, his gaze cutting like a blade, sharp enough to flay her alive.

Sienna flinched at the cold fury in his eyes, her practiced smile freezing on her lips. “Theron… I was so worried about you. You’ve been sitting here all day, I—”

“Worried?” Theron let out a bitter laugh, his voice dripping with contempt. “Worried about what? That I didn’t die along with her?”

Sienna’s face drained of color, her voice rising defensively. “What do you mean? I didn’t do anything to her! She died on her own!”

“Nothing?” His voice rose, his chest heaving. “You fed her mangoes. You tampered with patients’ medications. You pulled me away from the ER. And right before she collapsed, you flaunted our ‘baby’ in her face!”

“Sienna, you pushed her step by step to her death. You knew she was allergic. You knew she was with me. And you still did all of it!”

“She’s dead! It’s all your fault!”

He grabbed her, shaking her. “You killed the woman I loved!”

“No! I didn’t!” She struggled free. “Theron, you promised to take care of me! You gave me this baby!”

The baby meant nothing to him now.

He didn’t look back. He staggered out of the hospital.

Rhea was gone. His reason for living was gone.

He couldn’t stand to see Sienna another second.

A month after coming home, I’d settled into my new life.

I had a job I liked, friends I saw on weekends. Life was easy. Comfortable.

Then one day, a translucent screen appeared before my eyes, like a projection from another world.

It showed a familiar bedroom.

Theron sat on the bed, haggard and hollow, a shadow of the polished healer I once knew.

Sienna walked in with a thermos. “The healer said you need rest. Why aren’t you lying down?”

He didn’t look at her. His voice was hoarse. “I’ve booked an abortion. You’re getting rid of it.”

“What?” She slammed the thermos down. “This is our child. You can’t just throw it away!”

“Our child?” He glared at her. “Sienna, if it weren’t for you, Rhea would still be alive. I’ll spend my whole life regretting what I did. I can’t keep this baby—it’s a reminder of everything I lost.”

“Rhea died because she was unlucky! Don’t put that on our child!” She stepped closer. “This baby is all I have left. I’m keeping it!”

He wouldn’t listen. He grabbed her, dragging her toward the door.

“No! Let go!”

They struggled. Sienna suddenly gasped, clutching her stomach, doubled over.

“Pain… it hurts…”

He let go.

Blood seeped through her dress, staining the pale sheets.

He stared at the red, his expression empty.

“Gone… the baby’s gone…” She let out a bloodcurdling scream.

The screen went dark.

I walked to the balcony, looking down at the streets below. I felt nothing.

I smiled.

I’d already started my new life.

They couldn’t touch me anymore.
