The Luna Beyond His Reach Chapter 07

The Luna Beyond His Reach Chapter 07

When I opened my eyes again, I was in my familiar rented room.
Sunlight streamed in, warm and bright.

Back in the other world, the taxi carrying Rhea had just disappeared around the corner. Theron still stood frozen.

Sienna stepped up, impatient. “She’s gone. Why are you still staring? She was never good enough for you.”

Theron whipped around, his eyes blazing with barely suppressed fury. “If you hadn’t pushed me, if you hadn’t said those things where she could hear, none of this would’ve happened!”

“Pushed you?” Sienna blinked, then bristled. “Theron, you promised to take responsibility for me and this child!”

“Rhea was never supposed to be in our story. Her leaving is a good thing!”

“Good?” He laughed, a hollow, broken sound. “She’s already weak. Now she’s alone. What if something happens to her?”

His phone rang. The hospital. He answered, his heart pounding.

The nurse’s frantic face appeared. “Theron! Rhea left the hospital and we can’t reach her. She had half a bag of treatment left, and I need to confirm her follow-up plan, but her phone is off. I had to call you!”

His chest tightened. But then his gaze caught something behind the nurse—the bag of healing potion on the nightstand.

The formula on the label didn’t match the one he was supposed to have prescribed.

Cold horror shot through him. His body shook. “I… I gave Rhea the wrong medication…”

The nurse saw his expression. “Theron? What’s wrong? Is there a problem with the medication?”

He barely heard her. He hung up abruptly.

“Rhea knew… she knew all along. That’s why she was so cold. That’s why she said I was helping her…”

“I have to find her. She’s already weak. She can’t be alone out there!”

Sienna grabbed his arm. “Where are you going to look? She said it all. She won’t take you back. Let’s go home!”

Theron shook her off, flagged a cab, and told the driver to speed to Silvermoon. Rhea had mentioned visiting a friend who just had a baby.

Sienna watched the cab disappear, jealously twisting her features. “Rhea, even gone, you still haunt him…”

In the cab, Theron kept urging the driver to go faster. His mind spun with memories.

Rhea, her hand in his hair, saying it didn’t matter if it was a son or daughter, as long as they were like him.

Rhea, as he administered the potion, her calm eyes hiding something—something he only now recognized.

Her eyes… that wasn’t calm. That was surrender.
