The Fake Heiress Took My Name, My Family, and My Fiancé Chapter 08

The Fake Heiress Took My Name, My Family, and My Fiancé Chapter 08

The next morning, Zachary was at my door early.

When I asked about Mira, he shrugged. “She has Mom and Dad and the Harringtons looking after her. She doesn’t need me. I just need to take care of my real sister. I let you get taken. This is what I should do.”

I stayed quiet and followed him to the ballroom.

To erase everyone’s memory of the last engagement disaster, the Harringtons and Sullivans went all out this

time. Every notable person in Crestwood got an invitation. The engagement party ended up bigger than most

weddings.

I knew why my parents insisted I come, to prove their twin story was real. After all, no one would think I’d

stand there so calmly if we weren’t actually twins.

Mira, emboldened by my parents’ favoritism, played her cards right. Half an hour into the party, no one had

dared talk to me.

Seeing me ignored, Mira came over to gloat. “So what if you’re the real Sullivan? Mom and Dad and Derek all stand by me. Even Zachary’s gonna pick me over you eventually. Five years of being there beats whatever

little connection you had as kids.”

I swirled my glass and said quietly, “You and Derek Whitmore are never going to end up together.”

Mira was about to snap back, but a servant hurried over to tell her to get ready. The engagement party was

starting.

Before she left, she spat, “Sage Sullivan, who do you think you are? Derek and I will be happy forever. Just

you wait.”

To make sure I didn’t cause trouble, several black-suited bodyguards appeared around me just before the

ceremony.

On stage, both families gave speeches. Derek and Mira were all joy and shy smiles.

The emcee beamed. “Mr. Harrington and Miss Sullivan are so in love. Let’s all give them a round of applause,

shall we?”

Bang!

The applause was cut off by the shatter of a glass.

Everyone turned and looked at me.

“They can’t get married.”

Eleanor rushed down, angry. “Sage, what are you doing?”

Even Zachary, who’d always been on my side, softened his voice. “Sage, you didn’t have a problem with this

before. Come on, let’s not do this, okay?”

I looked up, surprised. “Since when did I say I was okay with it? And anyway, I’m trying to save them. You really think a half-brother and half-sister should be together?”

The crowd gasped.

At the same time, the screen behind Derek and Mira lit up with photos, Harold Whitmore with the same

woman, intimate shots, the woman holding a baby, and finally, several DNA test results.

“Everyone see clearly?” I asked with a smile, then turned my aim at Mira.

“And as for the truth? Mira… sorry, Mira Langley, you know better than anyone whether I’m lying.”

“Mira. What name are you even trying to reclaim?”

“Your mother loved some guy once. Really loved him. But that didn’t matter, not when money and status were

on the line. So they kicked her out. She had you. And then she came back, not as his wife, but as the nanny

for the Sullivan heiress.

“The Sullivans had their rules. You weren’t allowed outside. But one day, you snuck out and met the Harrington son. You were so excited. You ran and told your mother. And she panicked. She wanted to leave

right away.”

“But you refused. You got on your knees right in front of me. Crying. Begging. And I was the one who talked

your mother into staying.”

“So here’s my question. When you found out the Harringtons and Sullivans wanted to join families, why did

you lead the traffickers straight to me?”

The screen kept playing photos and videos, backing up every word.

Mira broke down. She lunged for a steak knife on the table and charged at me.

I kicked the knife away and knocked her to the ground.

“Mira Langley, I treated you well. Why did you bite the hand that fed you?”

“Because you deserved to die!” Mira glared at me with pure hatred, then whipped her head toward Richard

and Eleanor.

“You think without me you’d be safe? I don’t have the power to bring traffickers. Your parents wanted you

dead!”

Gasps erupted from every direction. Zachary roared, “Bullshit!”

“Bullshit?” Mira laughed like a maniac, pointing at Zachary. “Zachary Sullivan, stop pretending. You’ve never

asked yourself this?”
