He Wasn’t Supposed To Have Kids, Then I Got Pregnant Chapter 08

A harsh chemical smell filled my nose.I fought with everything I had, but my phone slipped from

my hand and hit the floor. Just before I lost consciousness, I heard Lucian shouting my name

through the phone.

When I woke again, I was lying in an unfamiliar hospital room with the ocean visible beyond the

window. Soft restraints secured my wrists to the bed.

My hand flew to my stomach. The baby was still there.Relief flooded through me so quickly that

nearly cried.

The door opened, and my parents walked in. My mother’s eyes were badly swollen.

“Livia, don’t be afraid. This is a private hospital overseas.”

My mind went blank.

“You kidnapped me?”

My father’s face was grim.

“You’re staying out of the Orsini family’s mess from now on.”

I struggled against the restraints.

“Let me go!”

My mother rushed forward and wrapped her arms around me.

“Once the pregnancy is taken care of, we’ll go home.”

“Taken care of?”

My throat tightened as I stared at her.”This is my child.”

My father frowned.

“Lucian has completely clouded your judgment.”

I started laughing, even as tears rolled down my face.

“You used to say you’d pluck the stars from the sky if it made me happy. Now the only thing I want

is my baby, and you’re trying to take that away too.”

My mother’s face turned deathly pale.

A doctor entered with several nurses.

The moment I saw the syringe on the tray, my entire body went cold.

The comments appeared one after another.

[No! Don’t let Livia lose her baby!]

[Hold on, Livia. Lucian has already found you!]

I stared at the syringe.

When the nurse came closer, I lunged forward and bit down hard on her wrist.

She screamed.

I kicked the tray out of her hands. It struck the bedside table, knocking a water glass to the floor as the syringe rolled away. Guards rushed in from the hallway, and the room descended into chaos.

I rolled off the bed, grabbed a shard of broken glass, and pressed it to my throat.

Everyone froze.

My mother screamed.

“Livia!”

My hand was shaking violently. The glass nicked my skin, and a thin line of blood ran down my

neck.

“If anyone touches me, I’ll die right here.”

My father’s face turned livid.

“Livia, have you lost your mind?”

I looked at him through my tears.

“You did this to me.”

A violent crash came from outside the room. The guards spun toward the door.

A second later, it burst open.

Lucian stood in the doorway dressed entirely in black, his eyes so red with fury that he barely

looked human. Behind him were doctors, nurses, and several local mobsters.

The glass slipped from my fingers.

“Lucian.”

He crossed the room in a few long strides and pulled me into his arms.

He held me so tightly that I could feel his heart hammering out of control against my body.

“I’m sorry I didn’t get here sooner.”I clung to his clothes, sobbing so hard that my entire body

shook.

“They were going to kill my baby. “Lucian raised his head and looked at my parents.

The coldness in his eyes was terrifying.

“Mr. and Mrs. Serrano, from this moment on, you are no longer Livia’s family.”

My mother’s knees nearly gave out.

My father shouted, “I’m her father!”

Lucian lifted me into his arms, his voice low and rough.

“In my eyes, she became my wife the moment she accepted my ring. “I stared at him.

“But we haven’t had a wedding yet.”

He looked down at me.

“The ring is all I need.”I couldn’t decide whether I wanted to laugh or cry.

He carried me out of the room.

The screech of brakes sounded below. A line of cars had stopped outside the hospital, and members of the other Orsini branches were climbing out.

Nero stood beside the lead vehicle with one hand braced against the door, his expression dark.

“Lucian, take her back to Riverside Manor.’

Lucian kept walking.

The guards behind Nero blocked the exit.

“That child belongs to the Orsini family. We can’t allow the Serranos to take it, and we certainly can’t let you hide the mother away by yourself.”

I laughed in disbelief.”The Orsinis and the Serranos keep fighting over me, but has anyone bothered to ask what I want?”

Lucian looked down at me.

“Where do you want to go?”

I sniffed.

“Back to New York. I want to marry you.”

The corner of his mouth moved in the faintest hint of a smile.

“All right.”

Nero gave a cold laugh.

“You’re not leaving today.”

Rain suddenly began pouring outside.

Lucian placed me inside the car, then positioned himself in front of the open door. More than a dozen armed guards closed in around him.

I pressed myself against the window, my heart lodged in my throat.

Gunfire erupted in the rain, coming from every direction.

I screamed and pounded on the glass.

“Lucian!”

He glanced back at me while keeping himself between the car and the attackers.

“Stay inside.”

Nero seized the opportunity to shout, “Are you really willing to give up your claim to the Orsini succession for that woman?”Lucian wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth.

“The succession? Do you honestly think I still care about it?”

Police sirens wailed in the distance, but the responding officers all answered to Lucian. The situation spiraled completely out of control. In the middle of the confusion, a vehicle smashed

through the barricade and sped directly toward my car.

My entire body froze.

The headlights rushed closer.

At the last second, Lucian tore open the door, dragged me out, and wrapped his body around mine

as we rolled down the stone steps.

Pain shot through my body.I landed on top of him.

His back struck the edge of a step, and blood quickly soaked through his shirt.

My hands and feet went ice-cold.”Lucian, don’t scare me.”

His eyes opened.

“Are you hurt?”

I shook my head through my tears.

“You’re bleeding.”

He raised one hand and touched my face, his voice barely above a whisper.

“Livia, we still haven’t gotten married.”

I cried even harder.

“Shut up!”

The ambulance arrived moments later.

Lucian was rushed into emergency surgery.

I sat outside the operating room with his blood covering my hands.

When my mother arrived and saw me, all the color drained from her face.

She tried to hug me.

I pulled away and shouted, “If he dies, I’ll never forgive either of you.”

Her tears fell instantly.

The light above the operating room stayed on for five hours.By the time the doctor emerged, my

legs could barely support me.

“Mr. Orsini is out of danger.”

Relief had only just begun to loosen the knot in my chest when the doctor turned to me.

“Miss Serrano, you’re showing signs of a threatened miscarriage. You need to be admitted for

observation immediately.”

Lucian still hadn’t regained consciousness when they wheeled me away.

Over the next few days, his condition continued to improve, and mine gradually stabilized as well. Three days later, an officiant and a witness came to the hospital, and we were legally married at Lucian’s bedside. There was no wedding dress, no flowers, and no celebration. I wore a hospital gown, while Lucian still had bandages wrapped around his back.

He held my hand and said, “First, I’m making you Mrs. Orsini. I’ll make up for everything else

later.”

For the next seven months, Lucian rarely left my side.

Then, with less than three weeks remaining before my due date, a sudden pain in my abdomen sent

me back to the hospital.

Late that night, I heard a woman speaking outside my room.

Audrey’s voice drifted through the door.

“That child was never supposed to be born.”
