He Wasn’t Supposed To Have Kids, Then I Got Pregnant Chapter 07

My mother’s eyes were still red when she entered the room.

She sat beside the bed and gently stroked my hair.

“Livia, you scared me half to death just now.”

My eyes stung. No matter what happened, she was still my mother.

Then her next words sent a chill through my entire body.

“Come home with me.”

I immediately shook my head.

She took my hand.

“The power struggle within the Orsini family is too dangerous. If you stay with Lucian, today it’ll be poisoned milk. Tomorrow, it could be a car accident.”

I pulled my hand away and looked directly at her.

“If I leave with you, what are you planning to do with my child?”

My mother avoided my eyes.

“You don’t have to keep the baby. We can take you to Europe, where no one will ever know pregnant. You can still marry well.”

For a long moment, I couldn’t speak.

The air-conditioning was running at full blast, yet my fingertips had gone numb with cold.

“Mom, what are you saying?”

Her eyes filled with tears, as though this decision was breaking her heart.

“You’re still young. Once the baby is gone, you can start over.”

I covered my lower abdomen and moved away from her.

“You want to kill my baby?” She shook her head desperately as she cried.

“I’m trying to save you.”

I stared at her, and suddenly, the face I had known my entire life seemed impossibly distant.

Footsteps sounded outside the room.

Lucian opened the door and walked in, holding a folder.”Mrs. Serrano, the flight you booked has been canceled. “My mother’s face went white.

Lucian placed the documents in front of her.

“I also canceled the abortion appointment you made. “I looked at my mother.

Her lips parted, but no words came out. A moment later, she turned and left the room.

My chest felt painfully tight. The comments had been telling the truth.

Lucian came to my bedside and pulled the blanket higher around me.

“Livia, don’t worry.”

I hid beneath the covers. Tears kept streaming down my face, and I didn’t want him to see me like

that.

He sat down anyway, gathered me into his arms, and held me against his chest.

“Don’t be afraid. I’m here.”

I clutched his shirt and sobbed so hard I could barely breathe.

“She doesn’t want my child. She doesn’t want me either.”

Lucian rubbed my back in slow, steady strokes.

“I’m your family now. We’re a family.”

That only made me cry harder.

When I finally cried myself out, I lay exhausted against his chest. “Lucian.”

“Mm?”

“I’ll go with you to the City Clerk’s Office tomorrow, I’ll marry you.”His body went rigid.

I lifted my head to look at him.

“If you change your mind, I’ll take the baby and marry someone else.”

His eyes darkened.

“I won’t change my mind, and I won’t allow you to change yours.”

A smile tugged at my lips just as my phone lit up.

Ryan had sent me a message.

[Livia, something happened to Audrey. She says you pushed her down the stairs.]

Ryan came to the hospital, but this time, he wasn’t there because he was worried about me.

He had come for Audrey.

The footage Ryan brought showed Audrey and me crossing paths on my way to the restroom, then made it look as though I pushed her down the stairs. That wasn’t what had happened.

I had gone looking for her because I wanted answers about the milk test results. I had never touched

her.

She had been standing at the top of the stairs when she suddenly threw herself backward. Just before she fell, she grabbed my sleeve and whispered, “You’ll never beat me, Miss Serrano.”

I had been so shocked that I froze. Then I called for a nurse and left,

Now everyone believed I had pushed her.

Ryan looked at me with a conflicted expression. He had also brought several Serrano guards with

him.

“Livia, Audrey is seriously injured.”

I let out a cold laugh.”So?”

“Apologize to her, and I’ll handle the fallout.”I was trembling with rage.

Lucian stood beside me, his voice icy.

“She didn’t do it.”

Ryan turned to him.

“You haven’t even looked at the evidence.”

Lucian raised his eyes.

“I believe her.”

A sudden warmth spread through my chest. The comments went silent for a few seconds before exploding across my vision.

[That’s so sweet!]

[Ryan is unbearable. He’s the one who decided Livia was guilty without checking the evidence. Lucian is so much better. At least he trusts the woman he loves.]

[But someone tampered with the footage. Is Livia going to be in trouble?]

[Don’t worry. Lucian is here!]

I told Lucian that I wanted the missing footage recovered so Ryan would have no choice but to accept the truth.

Lucian nodded and called his consigliere, who happened to be an expert hacker. While he worked on the surveillance system, Lucian and I stayed beside him and watched.

That was when I noticed the ring between Lucian’s fingers.

He caught me staring and closed his hand around it.

“I bought it on the way here.”

I blinked.

“You just picked it up on the way here?””I’ll replace it with a better one tomorrow.”

I pursed my lips.

He held the ring out to me.

“Wear this one for now.”

I extended my hand.

Lucian moved slowly as he slid the ring onto my left/ring finger.

The consigliere cleared his throat.

“You two do realize I’m still here. “Heat rushed to my face.

Lucian remained perfectly composed.

“Keep working.”

Two hours later, the consigliere recovered another section of deleted footage.

It clearly showed Audrey deliberately stepping backward and letting herself fall down the stairs. Just before she fell, she glanced toward the security camera.Once I had what I needed, I took the video to Audrey’s room.

Ryan was there with her.

Audrey lay against the pillows, her face pale. When she saw me, she gave me a weak smile.

“What are you doing here, Miss Serrano?”

I played the recovered footage for her.

Her smile froze.

I stepped forward and struck her across the face.

“That’s for framing me.”

She covered her cheek. The sweetness vanished from her face, leaving open malice in her

eyes. “Livia, sooner or later, you’ll have to give back everything you stole.”

I leaned closer.

“Lucian and my child aren’t pawns in your attempt to climb the social ladder. “She suddenly smiled.

“Your biggest mistake was coming here alone.”

I was about to respond when every light in the hallway went out.

This time, the strange comments hadn’t warned me.

I had been too careless.

A hand clamped over my mouth and nose from behind.
