He Only Sent Me Traffic Lights but Took Wedding Photos with Her Chapter 07

After that day, Ethan never came looking for me again.

I thought he’d finally accepted the breakup and owned up to what he’d done.

The days dragged on as I tried to pull myself out of that toxic relationship.

Brooke was right-I couldn’t let go that easily.

This city was full of him.

On every street corner, the couples holding hands, laughing and teasing each other, looked exactly like we used to.

When a song we both loved suddenly echoed through the mall, the familiar melody would instantly wrap around me.

I’d instinctively scan the crowd for his face-only to snap back to reality and remember that we

were over.

So I quit my stable job.

I applied for a transfer to our headquarters’ out-of-state branch, hoping a new environment would

help me start over.

But just when I thought it was finally ending, I got a call from an unknown number that night.

The other end was silent except for soft breathing.

I knew it was him.

I was about to hang up when his colleague’s voice came through.

“Sophia, you need to come see him. He’s drinking himself to death. He’s been like a zombie lately, drowning in alcohol every day.”

Right then, violent retching sounded on the other end.

And there were muffled, broken whimpers, stumbling and halting-like the cries of a wounded

beast.

“Sophia… Sophia…”

Mason handed me an apple. “Ma’am, let me wash it for you.”

His young voice had that soft, warm tone.

The sounds from the phone suddenly stopped.

Like whoever was there was holding their breath, listening to my side.

I pressed the end call button.

“I can do it myself.”

A cool evening breeze drifted through the window, carrying the chill of this unfamiliar city.

Mason leaned against the kitchen counter with his arms crossed, tilting his head at me. “Sophia, I’m your new neighbor from now on!”

I couldn’t help laughing. “Why did you insist on following me here?”

He grinned, eyes curving brightly. “Because the girl I like is here!”

Looking at his bright smile, I teased him. “You’re so eager. Aren’t you scared of getting your heart

crushed?”

He didn’t mind at all. His smile only grew warmer. “So what? I’m more than willing to be her personal sunshine. Even if the dark clouds block me, I’ll fight to break through the storm just to light up her world.”

The undisguised heat in his eyes hit me somewhere deep.

The next day, as I walked out of the office building, I saw that familiar figure.

Ethan stood at the bottom of the steps with Riley right beside him.

The moment he spotted me, he stepped forward urgently. “Sophia, I brought her here to explain.

It’s not what you think.”

I looked at the woman next to him.

She wore a nice dress that showed her noticeable baby bump.

She’d clearly dressed up, but she looked a lot more worn out than the last time I’d seen her.

Maybe I was imagining it.

But I thought I caught a flicker of jealousy in the way she looked at me.
