I Back to the Future, My Alpha Regrets Me in the Past Chapter 04

I Back to the Future, My Alpha Regrets Me in the Past Chapter 04

Ryan didn’t come home until early the next morning.

When he saw how weak I still looked, his voice suddenly turned gentle again.

“Rachel, something came up last night and I couldn’t make it back. Did you miss me?”

I didn’t look at him. Just sat there, staring at nothing.

“Still upset? Come on, don’t be mad at me. I really had no choice yesterday. You were a little out of line, you know. She’s my ex, and both her parents passed away. It’s only right that I look out for her.”

“And that little act you pulled yesterday? I’ll let it slide. You’re the one I love most, after all.”

Ryan had completely forgotten that I was just as alone in this world.

When I first traveled back to his era, I had no family, no one. He was the one who told me I could lean on him. And now?

I sat quietly, listening to every word. I didn’t say a single one back.

His expression shifted to something frantic, and he pulled me into his arms.

“Rachel, why have you been so cold lately? Don’t be like this. It scares me.”

Ryan could feel it. The scent that used to radiate from my body, the rose fragrance that bloomed because of my love for him, was completely gone.

Now I was like an ordinary person. A no-wolf who would never love anyone again.

Then his phone buzzed. A message from Zoe.

[Ryan, bring Rachel to lunch. I’m wearing those seamless panties today. You could try something fun under the table.]

Ryan’s lips curved into a smirk. The panic and guilt he’d been wearing a moment ago evaporated, replaced by nothing but desire.

“Rachel, Zoe just invited us to lunch. She says she wants to make peace with you. She knows she was out of line yesterday. Can you just let it go?”

I was going to refuse, but he grabbed my wrist and dragged me out before I could.

He carried me to the car and buckled my seatbelt.

At the restaurant, Zoe was already seated in a private room. She wore a sheer, barely-there dress, her curves visible beneath the fabric.

“Ryan, you’re here! I’ve been waiting forever.”

“Rachel, about yesterday, that was partly my fault. Let’s have a drink and call it even.”

She’d already poured a glass and set it in front of me.

I didn’t move. My eyes were on my watch. Ten minutes until noon.

“I don’t drink.”

My voice was flat. I expected Ryan to explode, but instead he went and brought me a glass of juice. He still remembered my alcohol allergy. Not that it mattered anymore.

Zoe raised her glass and drained it in one go.

Seconds later, she coughed up blood. It sprayed across my clothes.

She collapsed into Ryan’s arms.

“Ryan, Rachel is unbelievable! I apologized to her, and she put wolfbane in my glass! She’s trying to kill me!”

“Ryan, my chest is burning!”

Ryan’s face went white. He frantically wiped the blood from her lips.

“Zoe, don’t be scared. I’m here.”

When his furious eyes locked onto me, I knew it didn’t matter what I said. He would never believe me.

Before I could react, he grabbed what was left of the drink on the table and hurled it in my face.

Liquid fire. My skin erupted instantly. Allergic reaction. The swelling was immediate, my face inflamed and raw.

I couldn’t open my eyes. I tried to stand, to find water to wash my face.

Ryan shoved me back down. He pried my mouth open and poured the rest of the alcohol down my throat.

“You think you can run? You stay right here. You wanted to poison Zoe so badly, how about you taste your own medicine?”

The burning tore from my throat down to my stomach. My head spun violently. Every cell in my body revolted against the alcohol flooding my system.

“Help… help me, Ryan. The poison wasn’t me. I’m allergic to alcohol.”

I reached for him, begging. What I got back was a length of rope.

“Rachel, you’re going to stay right here and think about what you’ve done. I’ll come back for you after I take care of Zoe.”

The rope bit into my skin. He bound me without leaving a single gap and dumped me in the bathroom of a private dining room.

Then he ran back to the table and continued comforting Zoe, pressing a kiss to her forehead.

“Zoe, how are you feeling? I’ll take you to the hospital right now.”

Zoe draped her legs over Ryan’s lap instead.

“Ryan, as long as you’re beside me, I’m fine.”

Through the crack in the bathroom door, I watched them in the private room, shameless and unrestrained.

Ryan lifted her onto the dining table and lost himself completely.

But none of it mattered to me anymore.

I fought through the dizziness and the searing pain from the alcohol and glanced at the clock on the wall. Five seconds to noon.

“5, 4, 3, 2, 1…”

Mason’s voice filled my ears.

“Rachel, transport initiated! May you find happiness in the future!”

I closed my eyes and vanished from the spot.

When Ryan finished and pushed open the bathroom door, he froze.

All that remained was an empty chair and an untied length of rope.

Only the faintest trace of my scent in the air proved that I had ever been there at all.
