He Hated My Type, Now He’s Begging Chapter 06

Harrison showed up ten minutes early.

But Lilith was already standing outside.

He could see her through the windshield. Even from a distance, she caught the eye. People drifted past, all doing double-takes to glance her way. She didn’t even have to speak to be the center of attention.

Normally, that kind of gaze was reserved for him.

He watched in silence for a moment. Then checked the time. She’d said eight-thirty. It was eight-twenty.

The chat snickered:

[Scheming girl, standing outside just to wait for him.]

[Pilates ends at eight? She spent fifteen minutes on a no-makeup makeup look.]

[Changed outfits, spritzed on perfume, did her whole getting-ready routine. If this isn’t bait, I’ll eat my words.]

[If Serena had half this game, she’d already have him. Good thing the male lead only likes her.]

I’d spotted Harrison the moment he pulled up.

But I pretended not to, keeping my eyes glued to my phone, sneakily switching to our chat history.

When a shadow fell over me, I scrambled to lock the screen.

Harrison caught a flash of his own profile picture.

Had she been staring at their conversation this whole time?

I looked up, eyes crinkling as I smiled. “You’re here.”

Close enough that he caught a faint scent. Something between jasmine and warm sandalwood. Not overwhelming. Just… fresh.

The breeze carried it in waves. Only noticeable up close.

He shifted back half a step, a little uncomfortable, his gaze dropping to me.

The chat flooded with praise about his self-control.

I clocked his reddening ears, the tension gone from his face, his stance open. Not disgust. It was shyness.

I let my smile falter. “I’ve been thinking… maybe we’re not right for each other.”

“Serena said you don’t care about family background, but… I looked into it. The gap feels pretty big.”

Harrison’s brow furrowed, though his face stayed mostly still.

My phone buzzed again. He was tall enough to see the screen over my shoulder. Familiar names popped up.

He asked flatly, “Someone say something to you?”

I handed the phone over.

He raised an eyebrow, took it. Curious what those guys had cooked up to scare her off.

Word had gotten around that Lilith was impossible to land. There’d even been a bet among his circle about who could date her for a month without getting dumped.

He knew those guys weren’t the best sort. He only tolerated their company for the sake of family business ties.

After scrolling, his expression darkened.

[Harrison’s got a terrible temper. You said you’ve got standards? That circle is messy. He’s a sis-con too. There’s stuff I can’t say here. Do your research. Oh, and I’m an only child.]

[The fact that he’s never dated at his age? Red flag. Don’t listen to Serena about the “no class barriers” thing. Her own brother won’t let her date a broke guy. She’s pushing you at him so he’ll leave her alone. My family doesn’t care about money, though.]

Harrison paused on the messages about Serena. He didn’t hesitate and tapped her profile and saw my earlier conversation asking about their relationship.

Serena’s reply: [Harrison’s good to me, but we’re just siblings.]

[And I have a boyfriend! My mom’s all for me dating whoever I want.]

[Did he say he’s only looking inside the circle? Just ask him directly.]

To prove she had nothing to hide, she sent a string of date photos.

The chat blew up instantly:

[Original plot had her asking the villainess to test him and he confessed right away. Later, when she cried, he told her she was the one.]

[Now he’s going to think she’s actually into that loser.]

I let my voice drop, just a little. “If it’s too complicated, I’m okay not going public.”

“But I need to know where you stand.”

“I don’t do casual.”

“If there’s someone else you like, don’t chase me. I hate liars. And I hate games.”

Harrison locked the screen. “I’m not like that.”

Our eyes met. I could see him wrestling with something—what to tell me.

That was the thing about him at nineteen. No real guile. Everything showed on his face.

My gaze drifted to his lips. Nice shape. Untouched. He still had his first kiss.

Just as he opened his mouth to come clean, I rose on my tiptoes and pressed a feather-light kiss to his lips.

“I trust you.”

Harrison froze. His pupils dilated.

The chat exploded:

[Wait… shouldn’t the gold-digger be begging for a label? Why is she pulling the slow game?]

[Why isn’t he pushing her away?]

[Why is he pouting]

[Poor Serena, waiting downstairs for twenty minutes while he’s out here messing around.]

When I pulled back, I smiled. “Let’s walk a bit?”

He nodded, shoving his keys back in his pocket.

Night walks were perfect for this. Quiet. Intimate. Darkness has a way of blurring lines and making feelings feel more intense than they really are.

He kept glancing at me as we walked.

A car horn blared nearby. I stumbled on a crack in the pavement, and he caught me reflexively.

We held each other’s gaze for a moment. Then he reached down and took my hand.

His words started flowing more freely.

We didn’t get back until nearly nine.

When it comes to someone you’re physically drawn to, kissing just… works.

Before heading inside, I kissed him again. Whether he’d like me later didn’t matter. I was enjoying myself now.

Harrison watched me disappear into the dorm, then touched his own lips.

The chat lost it. Half of them were screaming about his “innocence,” the other half were shipping it.

[Seriously! They walked all the way back to campus? Someone ticket his car!]

[He’d better pay for that parking spot!]

[She’s dating someone too, so… just let them both do their thing. He initiated the hand-holding. Pretty NPC did nothing wrong.]

[What? Are you insane?]

[Guys, they never stay mad for more than three days. And neither one’s gone public yet.]

Serena was still stewing over Harrison ignoring her messages the night before. And the fact that I’d come back late.

In the original, he would’ve ghosted her during his flirtation with the other girl too.

For three days now, they’d barely spoken.

I’d gone back, cheerfully shared my date details, and watched Serena’s mood tank.

When I mentioned kissing him, she went quiet and didn’t talk to me for the rest of the night.

Her only reply: [Oh. Okay, haha.]
