He Paid for the Wrong Heart Chapter 13

He Paid for the Wrong Heart Chapter 13

My life became like a stagnant pond.

Only once in a while, when I opened my call history and saw that brief log, would I remember that he reached out that night.

On the day I finished handling Grandma Rose’s funeral, a photo suddenly started circulating online.

It was a weathered old desk.

Carved into it was one line.

[I want to get into the same college as H.W.]

It happened to be graduation season.

A girl’s secret crush always seemed to strike a chord with people.

The photo soon went viral.

Before long, someone dug up the fact that I had written it.

A lot of my old high school classmates messaged me.

Classmate: [Was that really something you wrote? I guess you got what you wanted, then.]

Classmate: [I never would’ve guessed you liked Hayes. Then again, a lot of girls liked him back then. But you were the only one who actually got into the same college as him.]

Someone like Hayes had been the center of attention even back then.

He had helped me twice without thinking.

After helping me, he forgot someone like me even existed.

But I could not stop myself from falling for him.

I just never imagined that something I had carved would be exposed to everyone years later like

this.

Nolan waited downstairs outside my place for a long time.

He called me again and again.

Something had happened in his family, so he had been busy lately. By the time he finally had a moment to breathe, he found out I had gone through something too.

i did not go see him.

As for Hayes, there was no reaction from him from beginning to end.

It was still the middle of the night where he was.

I changed my phone number.

That very night, I left Ashford, the city that had broken my heart.

My academic advisor knew about my situation.

I begged her not to tell anyone where I had gone.

She agreed.

Thankfully, senior year did not have many classes left.

I went to Harbor Point.

It was a city completely unfamiliar to me.

I found a decent internship there.

As time went on, I rarely thought about anything from Ashford anymore.
