The Subtitles Told Me I’d Be Thrown Into the Sea—So I Stopped Loving Him Chapter 04

Jason didn’t say a word. He just let me cry and whine.

He took me to a huge penthouse. The second he opened the door, my jaw dropped.

The living room had a giant framed photo of me. On the coffee table was my favorite mix of pink and purple flowers. The whole place was decorated exactly the way I liked.

The next moment, a pair of arms suddenly slipped around me from behind.

“Abby. Please don’t leave me. I don’t want to break up.”

“If I’ve done something wrong, just say the word. I’ll change.”

His voice cracked. I froze.

Wait. Was this even real?

Was he tricking me? Lulling me into letting my guard down so he could destroy me later?

“No! I’m the one who’s wrong, okay? I’ll change!” Jason’s expression was unreadable. I backed away, shaking.

“You’re afraid of me?” He stepped closer. But I stepped back.

“I heard everything you said yesterday. Why did you say that? Are you scared of going bankrupt?”

“Wasn’t I supposed to be?”

Inside the penthouse, the floating lines appeared once more before my eyes.

They told me this was all part of Jason’s plan.

That bouquet I adored? Jenna was the one who chose it. All these decorations? She’d bought and put them up single-handedly.

I quietly pushed him away.

“Jason, I said we’re done. Your company was failing. I helped you out. You stayed with me for six months. That’s enough.”

When I said that, Jason’s eyes turned red. He took a deep breath. “So that’s why you rejected the deal too.”

“You obviously knew there was something wrong with that project. Why else would you offer my family such good terms?”

I steeled myself. “Jason, I don’t want to see you anymore.”

He raised his hand. I flinched and tucked my head down. But his hand just landed on my head and ruffled my hair.

“Either way,” he said, “you admitted we had an arrangement. Per our contract, I’m bound to stay with you for a full year. The year isn’t over. You want to break the contract? Not happening. You’ll have to pay me back!”

I stared at him, speechless.

Fine. Let him do as he pleased. But I was never going to get tangled up with Jenna.

Just then, the doorbell rang. Before Jason could even answer, the door opened and someone walked right in.

“Mr. West? Oh, you’re here too. And who’s this?”

The subtitles popped up instantly.

[Here comes the heroine! She’s here to mark her territory!]

[She decorated every single thing in this apartment. Why should the villainess get to enjoy it?]

[Exactly. So gross. Abby is about to get mad and slap Jenna. And Jason will explode and make her dad lose a huge deal.]

I looked at my own hand and froze. I really wanted to slap her. But I didn’t dare.

Then Jason put his arm around me and said to her, “Who let you in? How do you have the code? Get the hell out!”

I blinked. What?

The heroine’s little nose turned red. Her eyes welled up. “Mr. West…”

I stood there, not knowing what to say. She bowed her head. “I’m sorry. I’m so sorry, Mr. West. I didn’t know you had a guest.”

“She’s not a guest. She’s the woman of this house. Jenna Bell. know your place. Do this again and you’re fired. Get out!”

“Yes, sir. I’m leaving.”

“Wait.” I stopped her. “You’re Jenna Bell?”

The subtitles confirmed it. She nodded at me. I turned to Jason and slapped him across the face.

The second I did it, I panicked. I was about to apologize, but then I clenched my fist.

My family isn’t bankrupt yet. And Jason said he has to stay with me for a full year. If he pisses me off this year, I can still teach him a lesson. I’d treat it as fair repayment.

Jason grabbed my hand. “Babe, did that hurt your hand?”

I yanked it back. “I came to your office that day. You were hugging her. Eating cake together.”

“And she decorated this whole place. Jason, are you trying to make me part of some sick game between you two? That’s disgusting!”

“You think I want a man that filthy to stay with me for a year? You’re not worthy. I told you, we’re done. Don’t come looking for me again.”
