Jason West had pulled three straight days of overtime. I finally shooed him into the kitchen to fix some barbecue ribs. That’s when a line of subtitles popped up in front of my eyes.

[Abby Wilson, you’re just an villainess, keep acting up. Soon Jason is going to meet the real heroine.]

[And then you’ll go against her, scheme against her, and he’ll tie you up, slash your face, and toss you into the ocean for the sharks!]

I buried my face in my hands, eyes fixed on Jason. I could barely get the words out.

“I don’t want to eat anymore. And don’t ever cook for me again.”

But Jason walked out with a full spread of dishes.

“Babe, what’s this? Another test?”

…

“Well, never mind. Actually, I’m not hungry.”

“Jason, seriously. Don’t cook for me anymore.”

His eyes flickered. He paused for a few seconds, then said, “Fine. Whatever you want.”

Right as he said it, another subtitle floated up.

[Phew. The male lead is relieved. Finally doesn’t have to wait on the villainess.]

[Dude was exhausted from all the overtime, and she was always bossing him around. Once he signs this contract, the company will be saved. Then she was useless to him.]

[Was she playing hard to get? Too bad. She’s completely useless to him now.]

My heart sank.

Six months ago, Jason’s company was on the verge of bankruptcy. I poured my money into saving him to keep him by my side. Now that his company’s back on its feet, is he going to betray me?

I shot up and slapped him across the face. “You get home so late every night! I’m starving waiting for you!”

“You’re so infuriating! Can’t you be more thoughtful?”

The second the slap landed, I caught his gaze and immediately felt guilty.

The subtitles were flooding my vision.

[Ugh, She’s awful. Poor Jason, getting hit for no reason.]

[She’s treating him like a pet dog. Once he gets back on his feet, the first thing he’ll do is ruin her whole family fortune.]

Before he could say anything, I quickly touched his face. “Does it hurt? I didn’t mean to, I just—”

“I know.” Jason sighed. “It’s fine. I’ve got work to do. I’d try to get home earlier from now on.”

He turned without another word and headed upstairs to his home office. Watching his back, a tight twist formed in my gut. Instinctively, I checked my bank balance.

Good. Still more than enough. As long as I didn’t act up and stay away from him, I wouldn’t end up completely ruined.

With that thought, I hurried to the bedroom and obediently lay down.

When Jason came in later, he automatically took my feet into his lap to massage them.

I pulled back immediately. “No. Don’t. You don’t have to massage me anymore.”

“What’s wrong? You okay?” He reached out to feel my forehead.

I dodged. “No!”

“I just don’t want a massage. You’ve worked so hard. Just go to sleep.”

I pulled the blanket over my head and turned my back to him. A long stretch of silence followed.

Finally, he replied, “Alright. I’ll leave you alone. I’ll take the guest room.”

The door clicked shut. I peeked out from under the covers and looked at the subtitles. My blood ran colder.

[Finally! The male lead doesn’t have to serve her anymore.]

[Tomorrow was when the heroine would arrive. Hope he gets some good rest!]

[I’m already hyped thinking about them hugging. Sweet little sweetheart paired x business tycoon? I’m screaming!]

I sat up straight, then immediately flopped back down. Forget it. Jason has his fated heroine. I wanted no part in this.

I’d made up my mind. I tossed and turned restlessly all night, finally drifting off as dawn broke.

Nightmares plagued me all night long. I dreamed of Jason choking me and tossing me into the ocean.

When I woke up, I touched my neck, still shaken.

The next second, I flipped out of bed at once and packed my luggage.
