The Subtitles Told Me I’d Be Thrown Into the Sea—So I Stopped Loving Him Chapter 05

I grabbed my bag and turned to leave. Jason caught my wrist.

“No, that’s not true!”

“Mr. West, but it is true!” Jenna’s eyes were teary. “You said you would take responsibility. Why are you denying it? You obviously…”

“Shut up!” Jason’s face was furious.

I gave him a cold smile. “Jason, if you want revenge because I forced you to be with me, just say it. I won’t laugh at you. But pulling something like this? That’s just pathetic.”

“Congratulations, you two. I hope you’re very happy together. Don’t contact me again.”

I broke free and ran out. Behind me, I heard Jenna crying and Jason yelling at her.

I didn’t care. I went straight to a bar and called a friend to drink.

“Abby, you really broke up with him? I mean, Jason is a jerk, but that face? Come on.”

I scoffed. “He’s just stringing two women along. He’s with another woman. He’s untrustworthy. I want nothing to do with a guy like him.”

My friend gave me a thumbs-up. “True that. Not him. Good men aren’t exactly rare. There are plenty of guys out there to choose from. Look, that guy over there is hot.”

I looked up and followed her gaze. Across the bar sat a man in a black shirt, wearing gold-rimmed glasses. Total wolf in sheep’s clothing.

Our eyes met. He smiled and walked straight toward me.

I was shocked. “Abby? What are you doing here?”

“Henry!”

My friend’s eyes went wide.

“What? Abby, you know him?”

“I’m Abby’s senior from college. I’m Henry Ford.”

My friend pinched my arm. “Henry? Perfect timing. Abby’s had too much to drink. Can you take her home? I’ve got another thing, gotta run.”

As soon as Henry showed up, my friend shoved me toward him. “Abby, this is your chance. New fling!”

Before I could say anything, she bolted. I leaned against Henry feeling dizzy, and tried to refuse. “Don’t bother, Henry.”

“Don’t worry. I haven’t had anything to drink. I’ll give you a ride. Where do you live?”

A voice suddenly sounded behind us. “She lives with me.”

I looked up. Jason. Great. He’d come chasing after me now!

[Oh my god… Word got out Abbys at a bar, and Jason ran over so fast he ditched a client!]

[Wow, he’s jealous. So much jealousy it’s toxic.]

[Wait, is this right? The male lead is wrapped around Abby’s finger? Where’s Jenna?]

I stared at the subtitles, confused. Jealous?

Then anger surged.

“You jerk! Jason, who do you think you are to tell me what to do?”

Jason stepped closer. “Stop it. I’m taking you home.”

“I’m not going back! You and Jenna are the perfect couple. You live together, you hug each other, and you still want to control me? No way!”

I leaned into Henry’s arms. “Henry, take me home.”

Henry looked at Jason and smiled. “You heard her. Abby didn’t want to go with you. Don’t force her. A gentleman knows when to back off. You have another woman, so stop bothering her.”

Jason’s face went dark. He grabbed Henry’s arm. “I said, she’s mine!”

I shoved him hard. “Jason, you’re disgusting! Don’t touch me! And I’m not yours!” I turned and pushed Henry toward the exit. He put his arm around me and led me out of the bar.

The cold night wind stung my cheeks, and I began to clear my head. I was about to leave when someone grabbed me.

“Abby, I said you’re not leaving.”

The next second, a heavy fist slammed into Henry’s jaw.

Henry shook it off and threw a punch right back.

The two men immediately got into a fistfight out on the street. I snapped fully awake and panicked.
