Every pair of Omega eyes locked onto me at once, thick shock and guilt plain on their faces.

Mia recovered first.

She stood up gently, embarrassment impossible to hide on her features.

“Avril, I didn’t think you’d come…”

I spoke plainly. “I truly didn’t want to.”

An Omega beside me rolled her eyes hard. “You haven’t officially become Luna yet—what’s there to act proud about?”

I looked at her with pity. “Are you this bitter because you won’t live long enough to see the day I take that title?”

“How dare you—”

Hemlock walked in right then.

He picked up the tense air between us and frowned in confusion. “What’s going on now?”

Mia pressed her lips tight, wearing a full face of hurt grievance.

“My friends only made a few casual jokes. I never imagined Avril would blow up over something so trivial.”

“Trivial?”

A cold laugh slipped out, every word sharp and clear.

“Is asking my mate out to private movie screenings trivial?”

“Sending him lingerie selfies trivial?”

“When Hemlock and I planned a trip, you dragged a whole group of friends to tag along—that’s trivial too?”

At my words, Mia slipped into her practiced wounded act, like she’d suffered an unbearable injustice.

“How can you talk about me like this? I only ever saw the Alpha as an older brother…”

Hemlock stepped straight in front of her to shield her, his voice sharp as he reprimanded me.

“That’s enough, Avril! Direct all your anger at me if you must—picking on a defenseless Omega is cowardly.”

Watching him side with her without hearing me out, I laughed softly.

My gaze turned completely empty, shoving down the sharp stabbing pain from our fraying mate bond.

“Hemlock, I hold no anger at all. Quite the opposite—I don’t care one bit about you and her anymore.”

I glanced toward Mia hiding behind him. “I told you before, I don’t compete with dogs for scraps. If you want him, this Alpha is all yours.”

Hemlock’s face darkened drastically.

“Avril, what nonsense are you spouting?”

I met his stare, tone steady and calm.

“Hemlock, let’s sever our mate bond.”

Hemlock froze for a second before letting out a mocking huff.

“Avril, your tantrums have a limit. Playing these back-and-forth manipulation tricks when you’re meant to be our future Luna?”

My expression stayed unruffled. “I’m not asking for your permission—I’m informing you.”

“This mating between us ends here.”

I stepped past him, ready to walk out.

Hemlock’s face turned livid as he snatched my wrist tight.

Disbelief and rage flashed in his eyes, his overwhelming Alpha aura threatening to swallow me whole.

“I’m warning you—if you step foot outside this restaurant tonight, there will be no going back between us.”

I lifted a faint, detached smile and ripped my arm free without hesitation.

“That’s exactly what I want. You two can carry on however you please from now on.”

Leaving the stunned crowd behind, I turned and walked firmly out the door.

Warm summer air wrapped around me with every gust of wind, carrying the fresh scent of wild plants lining the roads.

I wandered through the bustling pack territory, no crushing grief over losing my mate weighing me down—only pure lightness and relief.

It felt like a massive weight had fallen off my shoulders, every bit of pent-up frustration lifted clean away.

The footage on screen made my footsteps grind to a halt.

The video was filmed inside that very restaurant, the camera trained on their table.

A moment later, Mia’s voice filtered through the speakers.
