She Tried to Ruin My Future and I Ruined Her First Chapter 05

“English vocab flashcards?” 

Lila gasped, her hands shaking as she grabbed the 

folder. 

She dumped it out, and a mountain of index cards 

fluttered to the pavement like confetti. 

The entire crowd fell into dead silence. 

Then one student forced out a laugh. 

“Lila, you grabbed the wrong one, right? They’re probably in another pouch. Come on, stop messing 

around. We’re about to go in.” 

Under everyone’s stare, Lila dumped out every bag she 

had with her. 

She searched so wildly it looked like she would have stripped on the spot if she thought it might help. 

And still, she found nothing. 

It was like all the strength had been ripped out of her 

body at once. 

She swayed where she stood, the tear tracks still wet on her face, but now she could not squeeze out another 

drop. All that was left was raw panic. 

“My… my passes… where are they?” 

That was when it finally hit everyone. 

The students all started shouting at once. 

“Didn’t you say you checked before we left? So where are they?” 

“Yeah, how did a bag full of admission ticket turn into flashcards?” 

Some people were already crying. 

“Oh my God, we’re done. We’re completely done. There are only a few minutes left. My whole life is over.” 

The same crowd that had been circling me just 

moments ago flew into chaos. 

Every face was tight with rage and panic now, and 

every pair of eyes lasered in on the girl they had just been defending. 

Ms. Bennett’s face was livid. 

She clenched the empty pouch so hard her fingers shook, then snapped, “Lila Boone! What is going on 

here? Where are the students‘ admission tickets? You 

need to explain this right now!” 

Lila’s lips trembled. “I… I think I grabbed the wrong 

pouch. The one with the passes in it… I think it might 

still be back at the hotel.” 

The second those words left her mouth, the whole 

crowd broke. 

“Lila, are you stupid? Losing Sienna’s was already bad enough, and now you lost the whole class’s?” 

“Whatever problem you had with Sienna had nothing to do with us. Why are we getting dragged into this?” 

Evan stepped forward, his hands raised. 

“Everyone calm down,” he said quickly. “It was a mistake. I’ll have my driver race to the hotel and back 

in ten minutes!” 

But the mob wasn’t buying it. The ‘accident‘ excuse had 

lost its magic. 

“Oh, shut up, Evan. If you hadn’t pressured us into handing them over to her, would this have happened?” 

“Exactly. All Lila ever does is cry. What else is she good 

for?” 

“I’m telling you right now, Lila, if I miss this exam, my parents are not letting this go.” 

Watching the scene in front of me, I let out a quiet, 

mocking laugh. 

Now this was instant karma. A perfect one. 

I looked at the crowd and said sweetly. 

“Come on, why is everyone treating Lila like this? Weren’t you all just saying we should appreciate her 

kindness? Honestly, maybe you really should thank 

her. Otherwise, how would you ever have learned that 

flashcards can apparently get you into the exam too?” 

The hypocrisy hit them like a physical blow. 

Then I turned to Ms. Bennett. “And you shouldn’t 

blame Lila either, Ms. Bennett. 

Everyone willingly gave her their passes, right? So if 

they got lost, then people should be capable of accepting that risk.” 

She could not find a single word to throw back at me. 

Evan frowned at me in irritation. “Sienna, don’t act so 

smug. Your pass is gone too.” 

Someone else muttered unhappily, “Yeah. Everybody lost theirs. Do you really need to kick people while they’re down right now?” 

I almost laughed. 

They could sneer at me, mock me, and enjoy every second of it when they thought I was the one ruined, 

but now that I was returning the favor, suddenly that was too far? 

The hypocrisy was unreal. 

I let the silence hang for a heartbeat, then slowly 

reached into the side pocket of my tote. 

Then I held it up and gave it a little wave in front of 

their faces. 

“Who told you,” I said, “that my pass was missing?”
