My Army Captain Husband Posed as Another Woman’s Husband—I Jailed Him Chapter 06

From inside the hospital room came Melody’s excited voice, “Have the officials arrived? This is wonderful news! They’re finally going to arrest that shameless homewrecker.”

It was the same words he’d heard a hundred times, but this time Aiden felt restless.

All he could see in his mind was Naomi’s pale, gaunt face and thin body the last time he’d seen her.

“Melody, you’re an intellectual. Watch your language,” he said coldly. “And weren’t you suffering from a splitting headache? Why are you so energetic now?”

A trace of unease flitted across Melody’s eyes.

She didn’t have a headache at all, so she just mumbled vaguely, “I took my medicine. I’m fine now.”

Aiden pressed his lips together and went to greet the investigation team. He saluted. “Sorry to trouble you all. Whatever you need to look into, I’ll cooperate fully.”

The head of the inspection group gave him a meaningful stare before nodding gravely. “Very well. We’ve

received an accusation regarding violations of disciplinary conduct…”

Before he could finish, Melody cut him off.

“That’s right, officer. I filed the report!” Melody scrambled out of bed, her voice full of conviction. “I’m

reporting Naomi for deliberately ruining my marriage with Aiden and meddling in our relationship. She’s

nothing but a homewrecker!”

“She never learns from her mistakes, sets a terrible public example, and must face strict disciplinary action!”

“Melody!” Aiden snapped sharply to halt her outburst.

His usually calm heart was racing with an unease he couldn’t control.

He started defending Naomi almost without thinking. “It’s not that serious. Naomi is a simple, honest woman. When she worked at the textile factory, she was dedicated and diligent, having been awarded a labor

medal for her efforts.

“The evidence Melody submitted exaggerates the facts. That’s not fair to Naomi. I respectfully ask you to go easy on Naomi. If…”

His voice turned firm. “If the organization decides to sentence Naomi to reform through labor, I’m willing to serve her punishment.”

Melody stared at him in disbelief and let out a shriek. “Aiden! You…”

“Silence!” The inspector frowned hard. “What do you think this is? Some kind of street market haggling?”

The chief inspector’s face was cold as ice. The three officers behind him didn’t look happy either.

“Aiden, you earned a first-class merit for disaster rescue before. The organization thought highly of you,

which is why you were promoted to captain despite the rules.”

“But look at you now. No sense of discipline at all. Rules are rules. There’s no such thing as one person

serving another’s punishment.”

“Now that we’re here, we will get to the bottom of this. We will clear the innocent. And those who deserve

punishment will be punished severely.”

“We’ve already reviewed Melody’s testimony in the materials she submitted. Now we need to talk to Naomi in

person and hear her side. Where is Naomi?”

The sense of dread grew stronger.

Aiden spoke up. “I’ll find her.”

Just then, Aiden’s assistant knocked and came in to report. He saw the solemn faces of the investigation

team and hesitated.

“Speak.” Aiden’s voice was heavy.

The assistant’s voice trembled. “Captain, we found Naomi… She collapsed by the river and was rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment on the fifth floor. Doctors say her cancer is in its terminal stage, and she

may not make it…”

The words exploded inside Aiden’s head like a bursting bomb.

Aiden couldn’t hear the rest.

Terminal cancer? How was that possible?

His wife had always been the strongest person he knew. Always.

When she wasn’t even as tall as the stove, she was already forced to do all the housework.

She carried bundles of firewood as tall as a grown man for five miles.

After landing a job at the textile factory, she poured every ounce of herself into her work and earned the medal in her very first year.

She used to say proudly that her body had endless energy, that no one was healthier than her.

Aiden’s body swayed. His eyes red, he grabbed his assistant by the collar.

“…I don’t believe it. How can that be? Take me to her.”
