My Army Captain Husband Posed as Another Woman’s Husband—I Jailed Him Chapter 05

But my body failed me. My ears rang, and everything went dark.

I don’t know how long passed before I was woken up by rocks hitting me.

The neighborhood kids were picking up stones from the ground and throwing them at my head like it was a contest. Blood ran down my forehead. “Get the homewrecker! Kill the homewrecker!”

The onlookers pointed and whispered. “That’s her. The shameless homewrecker everyone in the neighborhood knows about. Stealing someone else’s husband.”

“She broke up a model couple’s marriage and even tried to harm their child. Disgraceful!”

“You better keep an eye on your husband. That woman has no standards—she’d even go for a stray dog.”

That was when I realized—I was tied up like a criminal, chained to the bulletin board in the middle of the neighborhood. Above me hung my confession letter.

[I engaged in immoral relationships, deliberately pursued a married man, used inappropriate language and provocative behavior to seduce the captain, and destroyed the harmony of his family…]

The familiar handwriting was Aiden’s.

Once, it had appeared in love letters to me. In our wedding license. In his pledge to me.

Now, it was being used to fabricate my crimes and nail me to the pillar of shame.

The cruelest part was that right next to my confession was the honor roll of model couples.

The photo of Naomi and Aiden smiling side by side was like a silent mockery.

Mocking my ten years of loving Aiden.

Mocking these five years of bearing his kid and swallowing my pride.

As if my entire life had been one big joke.

I was tied up from dawn till dark. Wave after wave of people came to curse and humiliate me.

First my hands and feet went numb. Then came the stabbing pain, unbearable, like needles.

But nothing compared to the tearing pain in my heart.

When night fell, Aiden came.

He gently stroked my hair. Massaged my hands and feet. Cleaned and bandaged the wound on my forehead.

He let me hit him and curse him without a word of complaint.

I bit his arm so hard I nearly took off a chunk of flesh. He just clenched his jaw and said nothing.

For a split second, I thought the old Aiden had come back.

Then his voice, rough and pained, sent me straight to hell. My blood turned to ice.

“Naomi… Enzo is missing.”

I ran home like a madwoman.

The house was empty. Just one note.

Scrawled in Enzo’s messy handwriting were the words: [I don’t want a humiliating mom like you!]

Mrs. Kingery, the neighbor, said carefully, “The little one saw the bulletin board. Then he heard some ugly talk. It upset him, and he ran off.”

My mind went blank.

A bone-chilling terror shot up my spine. I stumbled out the door.

Behind me, Aiden’s cold, hard voice barked. “Enough is enough! Let him learn his lesson and suffer a little! Don’t even think I’m sending anyone or any car to go look for him.”

There were no streetlights in the night. I fumbled my way to every place Enzo loved to go.

Weakness and dread sent me tumbling over again and again, yet I dragged myself back up each time.

It’s okay. It’s going to be okay. Enzo’s just sulking.

When I see him, I’ll explain everything…

Then dawn came. By the river, I found his little blue shoe.

The familiar pattern. The bright new color. The one I’d stitched by hand for him over the New Year holiday.

My blood ran cold.

I dared not step closer, not pick it up, not dwell on what it meant.

That same child who’d clung to me cooing “Mommy” first thing in the morning, how could he have vanished into the frigid river waters without a trace?

I clutched the little shoe, choking on my sobs. A raw scream tore from my throat. The pain was so sharp I couldn’t say another word.

The honk of the captain’s official car echoed in the distance.

Melody had another headache. Aiden was breaking the rules again to send her to the hospital.

I let out a bitter laugh. I laughed until I couldn’t breathe. Laughed until tears streamed down my face.

Aiden, you got what you wanted. Our son is dead. And I’m going with him.

You and Melody will get what you deserve!

On the other side, Aiden waited outside the hospital room, restless.

An unshakable dread gnawed at him alongside persistent irritation.

He did owe Naomi. He knew that.

But he’d already decided to serve her sentence for her.

After he finished his reform through labor. After Melody got better. He’d go home.

The three of them would live a warm, peaceful life as a family again.

Enzo was just throwing a tantrum. The neighborhood was so small. Where could he go?

He was starting to calm down when he heard a commotion at the hospital entrance.

“The investigation team is here!”
