My Army Captain Husband Posed as Another Woman’s Husband—I Jailed Him Chapter 03

That night, I dragged my exhausted body into bed.

The pain kept me awake. I had to take five painkillers before it finally eased.

Half asleep, I felt an arm slide around my waist. That cold, hard man gently touched my face. “You’ve lost weight.”

Then he leaned down to kiss me.

The painkillers were wearing off. My stomach twisted violently. I shoved him away and bent over, vomiting so hard I couldn’t see straight.

Some of it splattered onto his uniform.

Aiden’s face turned dark. “Do I disgust you that much? Or are you putting on a show to prove a point?”

Every inch of my bones ached. Tears blurred my vision, and I was just about to explain when a divorce agreement was slammed down right in front of me.

“I wanted to talk this through with you, but clearly that’s pointless now.”

“Melody reported you to the higher-ups. The investigation team is coming soon. If they find out we’re already married, it’ll be too much for her. It’ll set back her recovery.”

“Sign it. We’ll get a fake divorce. Then remarry after the investigation is over.”

I stared at him in disbelief. “Aiden! You want to make me the mistress for real? Do you have any idea that I could be executed if I’m labeled a homewrecker during this time!”

Aiden’s cold gaze softened. He shook his head gently. “No, they won’t. I’ll plead for you. Worst case, you get sent to reform through labor. If you can’t handle it there, I’ll serve your sentence for you. Getting Melody better is my responsibility. And so are you.”

I shook my head helplessly. All I felt was despair.

And then what? Live the rest of my life labeled as some degenerate who sleeps around? Get buried with the stink of being a mistress?

Have strangers spit at me on the street every day? Have my own son look down on me?

Had he ever stopped to think how I would survive if that shameful label stuck to me in such a conservative era?

“Aiden, I’m not signing this. If I’d known it would come to this, I never would’ve fallen for you. I would’ve stuck with an arranged marriage instead of following you here.”

Aiden’s expression shifted instantly.

He grabbed my thin wrist and squeezed. His voice was tight. “You don’t love me anymore?”

What was left to love?

I loved the Aiden from ten years ago.

The one who took beatings from ignorant villagers with their clubs and shovels just to save me, who got beaten unconscious and spent three days in the ICU.

The one who helped me fight against the arranged marriage, who gave me books, who told me I could choose my own life.

The one who’d written a thousand-word promise on our wedding night, swearing to love and protect me for a lifetime.

I closed my eyes, exhausted. “We’ll divorce. But not now. After the investigation is over and my name is cleared, then we separate.”

Aiden hesitated.

Then a guard’s report came from outside. “Captain, Melody is having another episode. The headache’s so bad she’s banging her head against the wall. She keeps crying for you.”

Aiden’s chest heaved violently. He wrestled with himself for a moment, then suddenly said, “You only have a primary school education. You only know farming and have limited exposure to the world. It’s better to send Enzo to Melody. She’s a highly educated intellectual and can tutor him properly.”

I stood up abruptly, waves of dizziness crashing over me.

“Aiden, don’t you dare! No one is taking Enzo from me.”
