Canceled Honeymoon Chapter 09

Canceled Honeymoon Chapter 09

It was the second time I’d seen that look in my mom’s eyes.

The first was when I cut my wrist during my depression and she almost lost me.

And now this.

I looked down. My stomach looked the same, but it felt empty.

A life I hadn’t even known existed had already left me.

I numbly touched the place that was no longer alive, struggling to accept it.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw my boss through the hospital room window.

I had collapsed in Damian’s arms. I heard his panicked heartbeat and his rare, frantic shouts for help.

But then his phone rang like an alarm.

On the other end was Poppy’s terrified sobbing. She was screaming, “It hurts… it hurts so bad.”

“I think I’m dying, Damian.”

My boss found me right after and got me to the hospital.

Outside the door, my boss hesitated for a long time before coming in.

I figured Damian had told him something.

“Mr. Blackwood said if you just swallow your pride and apologize to Miss Poppy, the project goes through. Two years of the team’s work won’t be wasted.”

“And the company will have his support going forward. The Blackwood family can provide whatever we need.”

My nails dug into my palms. The unhealed cuts split open again.

I bit my lip and let the pain hold back the storm of emotions.

For someone like Damian, projects and success were just toys to hand out.

They were minor things he could kill or revive with a single sentence to impress someone else.

Two years of my blood, sweat, and tears were just a bargaining chip to him.

If I was difficult, he took it away.

If I behaved, he’d give it back with interest.
