He Delayed My Delivery for His Widow’s Son? Meet the Veyron Heiress! Chapter 10

He Delayed My Delivery for His Widow’s Son? Meet the Veyron Heiress! Chapter 10

I sat in a villa in Italy, watching the surveillance feed.

Outside the window stretched endless vineyards. Sunlight fell across stone walls and olive trees, quiet as another world.

My father came in and dropped a document in front of me.

“Rosetti Group – only three billion in book assets, fifty billion in liabilities.”

“They could file for bankruptcy protection at any moment.”

I opened the file and skimmed a few pages.

“Faster than I expected.”

My father sat down on the sofa across from me and sighed heavily.

“Do you really have to watch him collapse completely?”

I looked up at him.

“What else? Do you think I should forgive him?”

My father shook his head at once.

“Of course not.”

“They deserve what happened.”

“I’m only afraid you’ll trap yourself in this forever.”

I closed the file and almost laughed.

“I’m fine.”

“The moment my daughter died, I walked out of that marriage.”

“Everything now is only the price I am taking back.”

My father studied my face.

“Aurelia, you’re not the same as before. You used to smile so much.”

“Now when you smile, there is nothing in your eyes.”

I rose and walked to the window.

The vineyards rolled into the distance. The sky beyond them was impossibly blue, without a single stain.

“Everyone grows up eventually.”

“Some people need years.”

“Some people only need one betrayal.”

“And one death.”

My father did not press further.

He simply sat with me for a while, then left the room in silence.

Not long after, my phone rang.

The screen showed a number so familiar it was almost absurd.

Nikolai.

Or rather, he had called my old number.

I answered.

I did not speak.

From the other end came his hoarse, nearly shattered voice.

“I know you can’t hear me.”

“But I still want to talk to you.”

“The company is finished. Really finished.”

“Father is dead. Isadora left too. Bianca won’t even look at me.”

“There is nothing left around me.”

“Sometimes I think, if I had treated you better back then, would things be different now?”

“If I had not been so greedy, if I had not wanted a son, if I had not wanted the entire Rosetti empire…”

“Would you still be alive?”

His voice broke. When he spoke again, I could barely make out the words.

“But there is no going back.”

“You died. Our daughter died too.”

“All because of me.”

“I can never make up for it in this lifetime.”

“So I am going to sell everything that remains.”

“I’ll divide it into three parts.”

“One part will be donated in your name. Think of it as… as me doing something for you and our daughter.”

“One part will go to Isadora and the child. That is Luca’s bloodline, and I owe my brother that much.”

“The last part…”

He laughed once – painfully.

“I’ll keep for myself. I need to buy myself a grave.”

“Beside yours.”

“In the next life, I will make it up to you properly.”

The call ended.

I still held the phone, unmoving for a long time.

The screen slowly dimmed. The black glass reflected my face – pale, calm, empty.

Like ruins that had already burned to ash.
