He Delayed My Delivery for His Widow’s Son? Meet the Veyron Heiress! Chapter 09

The police investigation dragged on for two weeks. In the end, the case was temporarily closed due to insufficient evidence.

But that shipment was still detained by customs — ten million dollars gone in an instant.

The Rosetti family’s reputation collapsed.

Partners began to withdraw. The stock price plummeted.

Aldo Rosetti suffered another stroke. This time, he did not survive.

Before he died, he gripped Nikolai’s hand, his cloudy eyes filled with unwillingness.

“Save… save this family…”

“That child… the heir…”

After those final words, he stopped breathing.

The funeral was plain.

Not many people came. Aside from a few old family men who had no choice but to show their faces, most of the rest were vultures, there to see how many cards the Rosetti family had left.

Isadora stood before the grave with the baby in her arms, crying so hard she could barely stand.

It was hard to tell whether she was mourning Aldo or mourning the powerful shelter she was about to lose.

Nikolai’s face remained as cold as ice.

Only after all the guests had left did he turn to Isadora.

“Pack your things.”

Isadora froze. “What did you say?”

Nikolai repeated calmly, “You and the child will leave the Rosetti estate.”

“I’ll give you a check. It will be enough for you to live comfortably for the rest of your life.”

Isadora’s voice instantly turned sharp. “Are you insane?”

“I am your sister-in-law. This is Luca’s son!”

“Your father said himself that he is the Rosetti heir!”

Nikolai laughed once — bitter enough to hurt.

“Inherit what?”

“The Rosetti family is almost collapsing. What can he inherit?”

“Debt?”

Isadora staggered back a step.

“You’re abandoning us?”

“I’m taking care of you.”

Nikolai’s voice had no rise or fall.

“That is what money is for.”

“As for the estate, I will keep it.”

“Aurelia’s traces are here. I won’t hand it over to anyone.”

Isadora stared at him, then she laughed too.

“Traces?”

“Stop lying to yourself, Nikolai.”

“You never loved that woman. You’re only guilty.”

“She died too miserably, so now you can’t sleep.”

“If she were still alive, you would have cast her aside sooner or later and married me.”

Nikolai’s face darkened.

“Shut up.”

“No. I won’t!”

Isadora finally stopped pretending.

“Didn’t you marry her because she had no backing and was easy to control?”

“You told me yourself that once she gave birth, you would divorce her.”

“Now she’s dead. Isn’t everything simpler?”

“You should thank me! Thank my son for removing her from your life!”

Smack —

This slap was even harder than the one he had given Bianca.

Isadora was knocked to the ground.

The baby in her arms burst into frightened cries.

Nikolai looked down at her, his eyes so cold there was no warmth left in them.

“Get out.”

“Get out now.”

“If you ever appear here again, you won’t even get that check.”

Isadora climbed up from the ground with the crying child in her arms.

She glared at him viciously.

“Nikolai, you will regret this.”

That night, Isadora left the Rosetti estate with the baby and a fifty-million-dollar check.

Nikolai stood alone in the main hall.

He looked up at his father’s portrait.

After a long while, his legs gave out, and he nearly dropped to his knees.

“Father, I can’t do it.”

“I am going to lose everything you built.”

No one answered.

In the empty hall, only the wind moved through the corridors.

White mourning banners snapped in the air like a judgment that had come too late.
