He Delayed My Delivery for His Widow’s Son? Meet the Veyron Heiress! Chapter 08

The Rosetti family’s business began to decline.

The first trouble came from the ports — shipping lines that had worked with them for more than a decade suddenly suspended operations, claiming the cargo had failed inspection.

Nikolai sent people to investigate.

The other side would not even open the door.

Then the banks withdrew their credit lines.

Several cross-border contracts that had already been signed were canceled on the same day — “abnormal risk assessment.”

Their cash flow was choked off overnight.

Then came the clients.

Several major deals Rosetti had been certain to win somehow shifted to their competitors.

Within one month, the Rosetti Group’s market value shrank by thirty percent.

Aldo Rosetti was so furious that he suffered a cardiac episode and was rushed to a private hospital.

Nikolai spent every day running between the office and the hospital, drowning in problems.

Isadora cornered him in the hallway with the baby in her arms.

“You barely come back to the room anymore.”

“Your son needs you.”

Nikolai looked at her coldly. “My father is in the hospital, and the company is close to collapse. What do you think I should be doing?”

“Who cares about the company? It’s not as if the Rosetti family has no money.”

Nikolai looked at her as if seeing this woman clearly for the first time.

“Do you know how the Rosetti family got to where it is today?”

“My grandfather, my father, my brother – three generations risked their lives for it.”

“None of this fell from the sky.”

Isadora rolled her eyes.

“You can’t just abandon us like this.”

“The baby isn’t even a month old, and you’re never by his side.”

Nikolai did not answer. He slammed the door and left.

He went to the annex chapel.

The coffin was still there.

No cemetery plot had been chosen. No funeral had been held. So “I” had still not been buried.

Nikolai sat down beside the coffin in exhaustion and murmured to himself.

“If you were here, you would tell me what to do, wouldn’t you?”

“You would probably say, don’t panic. Sort it out one thing at a time.”

“You were always so calm. So smart…”

He took out a cigarette and lit it.

Smoke curled under the dim light.

“I don’t even have one person left to talk to now.”

“Father only curses me.”

“Isadora only wants money.”

“Bianca only cares about herself.”

“You never asked for anything.”

“You were always helping me.”

He inhaled, but soon began coughing.

He coughed so hard that tears came out.

“I’m sorry… God, Aurelia, I am so sorry.”

“I never thought it would become this.”

“If I could do it again, I…”

His phone suddenly rang.

It was his assistant, voice shaking. “Mr. Rosetti, something terrible has happened.”

“Our cargo has been seized by customs. They say it contains prohibited goods!”

“A large quantity. It may become a criminal investigation.”

Nikolai shot to his feet.

“Prohibited goods?”

“Impossible.”

“Rosetti’s legitimate business has always been clean.”

“I know, but the police are already at the office. They want to take you in for questioning.”

Nikolai hung up, rushed out of the chapel, and drove toward the company.

Halfway there, an unfamiliar number called him.

On the other end was a man’s voice, cold and controlled.

“Mr. Rosetti, do you like the gift I sent you?”

Nikolai frowned. “Who are you?”

“You do not need to know who I am.”

“You only need to know this is just the beginning.”

“You owe a debt.”

“And you will pay for it with everything.”

The call ended.

Nikolai immediately called back.

The number was already unreachable.

His hands on the steering wheel finally began to shake.
