He Delayed My Delivery for His Widow’s Son? Meet the Veyron Heiress! Chapter 05

They carried me into a modified medical vehicle – though calling it a vehicle was not accurate. It was a mobile operating room.

A medical team was already waiting inside.

The moment I was brought in, everyone rushed around me.

“Blood pressure is dropping! She’s going into shock!”

“Fetal condition is critical. We have to intervene now!”

“She’s too weak. If we operate now, the mother may not survive…”

The man who had carried me in exploded. “No matter when, the mother comes first!”

“If anything happens, I’ll take responsibility!”

I caught his hand – though I barely had the strength to hold on.

“The baby…”

“Save my baby first…”

He clasped my hand back, his fingers trembling.

“Don’t talk, Miss. You need to save your strength.”

“Don Cassian will be here any minute.”

“Both of you will be fine. You and the baby will both—”

Before he could finish, the machine beside me screamed.

“We’re losing her!”

“Prepare defibrillation!”

“No fetal heartbeat!”

“Resuscitation now! Move!”

Everything blurred.

Oxygen mask.

Safety straps.

Blinding lights.

Racing footsteps.

The last thing I heard was someone lowering their voice and saying in despair, “The baby is gone… no heartbeat.”

Then the world went completely black.

When I woke again, I was staring at an unfamiliar ceiling.

The air was full of disinfectant.

“Miss is awake!”

Several faces quickly appeared above me.

All of them belonged to people I had known since childhood – Veyron family people.

“Where is my baby?”

I opened my mouth. My throat felt as if it had been scraped with sandpaper.

The ward fell into dead silence.

Then someone at the foot of the bed slowly turned around.

It was my father.

Don Cassian Veyron.

The man who could make countless people in the European underworld bow their heads looked as if he had just returned from war.

Overnight, the hair at his temples seemed to have turned white.

He came to sit beside me and took my hand.

“My little Aurelia…”

He could not continue. His voice caught in his throat.

I stared into his bloodshot eyes and already understood.

“She didn’t survive, did she?”

My father closed his eyes and nodded.

“Too much blood loss. Too long without oxygen. She was too small.”

“They did everything they could.”

I closed my eyes.

I did not cry. I did not scream. I only felt suddenly hollow.

That tiny life who had stayed with me for nine months.

The child who kicked me softly at night, who quieted whenever I touched my belly.

The daughter I whispered to every evening.

Just like that, she was gone.

“Where is Nikolai?”

My father’s face hardened.

“At Rosetti Hospital with Isadora.”

“She delivered.”

“A boy.”

“The Rosetti family is celebrating. No one has asked about you.”

I suddenly laughed.

I laughed until my entire body trembled.

“Of course. Of course they wouldn’t ask.”

My father gripped my hand tightly.

“Come home with me, Aurelia.”

“Those people do not deserve you.”

I looked at him for a long while. Then I said softly, “Dad, I need something.”

He said, “Name it.”

“A dummy.”

“Make it look like me. A woman who just gave birth, hemorrhaged, and died in the hospital.”

“Everything has to look real.”

My father understood.

“You want them to think…”

“That I died.”

I finished the sentence for him.

“I want Nikolai to believe my daughter and I are both dead.”

“Then I will watch.”

“Watch them open champagne upstairs.”

“Watch them finally remember the wife they threw into the basement.”

“Watch Nikolai hold his brother’s son and celebrate the Rosetti future.”

“While my child did not even get the chance to have a name.”

A long silence followed.

At last, Dad nodded.

“Then that’s what we’ll do.”
