My Husband’s Mistress Is My Sister Chapter 12

My Husband’s Mistress Is My Sister Chapter 12

Ethan didn’t catch me.

He was seconds too late. By the time he got outside, I was already in the car, and it was pulling away.

He ran after it for a long time, until he couldn’t anymore. Then he just stood there, calling my phone over and over.

I didn’t pick up.

Yesterday, we’d finalized the divorce.

I’d told him we’d do the wedding today and then get married again afterward, double the celebration, I’d said. And he’d believed me.

I didn’t feel satisfied. Just hollow.

When I was on that operating table, wanting nothing more than to be done, I’d heard my therapist’s

voice.

him.

During my treatment, she’d gently pointed out how much I relied on Ethan. I hadn’t listened to her then.

Lying there, I listened.

It wasn’t because I suddenly wanted to live. It was because I wanted to live long enough to hit back.

That was the only reason I fought to stay.

When I opened my eyes and saw the fear on Ethan’s face, I already knew exactly how I was going to hurt

He hated that I’d chosen someone else first.

So I’d let him think he finally had me. Then I’d remind him, over and over, that the woman he wanted was

someone else’s. And when he was used to having me, I’d leave him with nothing.

It worked,

Every time I pretended to remember something from my “past life” with my “husband,” I watched the pain flicker across Ethan’s face, and for a second, I felt good.

But just for a second.

Then there was nothing.

Like someone had ripped my chest open and stuffed it with straw.

I didn’t understand it, not until the night Ethan was in the hospital with a stomach attack, unconscious, still saying my name.

In that moment, none of it mattered anymore. Not the pain. Not the anger. Not the love.

Ethan had used betrayal to hurt me. And it only worked because I loved him.

What was I doing that was any different?

Hiding behind love to justify revenge.

I sat by his bed until the sky started to lighten. When I looked at his face, there was nothing left in me. Not love. Not hate.

I didn’t want revenge anymore.

But I still had Vanessa.

I reached out to her. Asked if she wanted to make a bet. If she wanted Ethan for good.

She looked at me suspiciously. “I’ve screwed you over twice. Why would you help me?”

I smiled. “I’ve helped you before, haven’t I?”

Her eyes flickered, and she laughed. “I really hate you, Grace. I’ve always hated you. But you’re right. You’re the only person who was ever actually good to me.”

She believed me when I said I just wanted a way out.

She still thought I was the same Grace who only knew how to ask why.

So I gave her a gift too.

The moment I walked out of the wedding, I sent a presentation to her parents, her relatives, her boss and coworkers. A detailed timeline of how she’d seduced two married men. Complete with receipts.

And Julian, I didn’t forget Julian. I sent his wife’s boss a summary of his affair.

Her boss’s mother had killed herself after her own husband cheated. The woman had no patience for

men like hirn.

As for Ethan’s parents, they cared more about appearances than anything. The wedding was full of their business partners. That video would keep them talking for a long time.

Everyone who hurt me got what they deserved.

By the time I let out a breath, the weight I’d been carrying was gone.

The cab pulled up to the airport. I’d already shipped my luggage ahead.

I was almost through security when I heard his voice behind me.

He looked like he’d been running for miles.

“Grace. Take whatever revenge you want. Just… don’t leave.”

Right there, in front of everyone, he dropped to his knees again.

I smiled. His knees didn’t mean a thing to me anymore.

I didn’t answer. I just turned and walked forward.

The past will always be there. But it doesn’t have to be the thing that holds you down.

As long as I have myself, I can go anywhere.
