I walked into Richard’s office, seething more and more at Daniel the whole way.

Richard looked straight at me. “Do you have feelings for Daniel?”

I gritted my teeth hard. “Yes, I do.”

“When did you two get together?”

“Last night.”

Richard leaned back in his leather chair and lifted his eyes to meet mine. “He was holding Linda in his arms just now.”

“What?”

That traitor betrayed me again?!

Rage flared up instantly in my eyes. “We agreed to be a couple! How dare he go back on his word?”

Richard frowned and tossed a stack of documents casually onto his desk. “You’re this upset over him?”

“Of course I am!” I spoke without thinking, “If he can be with Linda, then why didn’t something happen between us…”

My words cut off sharply.

Richard raised an eyebrow, a faint smile tugging at his lips. “Nancy, have you lost your mind?”

I bit my lip.

I almost exposed everything. “What I meant was Daniel and me. Mr. Smith, how did you find out Daniel was holding Linda?”

Richard showed me a photo on his phone.

It was taken from an overhead angle.

Daniel, dressed in a tailored suit tall and lean, was carrying Linda in a red evening gown in a princess hold.

They looked perfectly matched, like a real couple.

“Linda twisted her ankle at a cocktail party today.”

So that was it.

I thought Daniel was suicidal for crossing the line.

I forced an awkward laugh. “I see. It’s just his job duty. I trust him completely.”

“You trust him that much?”

“We grew up together, childhood sweethearts. We even had a childhood engagement arranged when we were little.”

When we played house as kids, he was the dad and I was the mom.

Though we always fought and bickered for control of our fake family.

Richard stared at me, his face unreadable.

I pursed my lips. “If there’s nothing else, Mr. Smith, I’ll head out now.”
