Acting for Survival- Playing the Innocent Heroine to Escape the Villain’s Trap Chapter 06

The next day while I was sorting documents, noise erupted outside my office.

Nine hundred and ninety red roses arrived—so heavy four delivery guys had to carry them together.

The lead florist called out loudly, “Is Ms. Nancy Garcia here?”

Everyone whispered curiously while I froze in shock.

I covered my mouth dramatically. “It’s me.”

The florist grinned. “These are from your boyfriend. Nine hundred and ninety roses just for you.”

At that moment, Richard walked over surrounded by employees.

Our eyes met, and my body stiffened automatically.

Still, I stepped forward to sign under his watchful, assessing gaze.

Everyone was murmuring congratulations until they saw Richard’s completely cold expression—then they all fell silent instantly.

I nodded politely when passing him.

“Boyfriend?” Richard asked quietly.

I forced a smile. “Yes, Mr. Smith. I have a boyfriend now.”

I’m innocent. I have no hidden feelings for you at all.

“Who is it?”

“Daniel Sean.”

Richard’s face turned complicated. “Come to my office later.”

“Sure. Let me sign for the flowers first.”

Right after signing, my phone popped up an auto-payment notification.

[$4,700 charged successfully. Contact customer service for disputes.]

My legs nearly gave out.

I definitely have a dispute! A huge one!

Before I could call the shop, a message popped up from Daniel.

[I hooked you up real nice right? Nine hundred and ninety roses, total luxury vibe~ I ordered it using your phone while you were asleep last night.]

Daniel! You absolute jerk!

I calmed myself down and asked the florist, “Can I return this bouquet?”

The florist stepped back three steps instantly. “Sorry, returns aren’t allowed.”

I had no choice but to laugh awkwardly. “Just kidding haha.”

The florist smiled back. “Sure you are. You look like you’re crying happy tears.”

At that moment I felt extremely relieved Linda hadn’t ended up with Daniel.

What was even attractive about him anyway?

We grew up together, and he’d always been manipulative and scheming since childhood.

He was the one who suggested I jump off the stairs wrapped in bedsheets pretending to be a fairy. But when I actually tried jumping, he grabbed my legs and stopped me at the last second.

So the caretaker only saw Daniel heroically saving me.

And I got scolded terribly instead.

When I tried telling the truth afterward, Daniel threw himself onto me crying dramatically, covering my mouth while wiping my tears.

He looked tearfully up at the caretaker. “It’s all my fault. Scold me before you scold Nancy.”

His perfect nice-guy image was set forever.

He got five little red star rewards that night.

And from then on, we were partners in chaos together.

We always had similar grades and good looks.

In middle school, to reject unwanted admirers, we lied and said we were dating each other.

The street gang guys bullied Daniel for it.

The popular girls at school warned me harshly.

For revenge…

I slipped sleeping pills into his milk the day before final exams.

After exams ended, he challenged me to a fight behind the school building.

I thought we’d keep sabotaging each other forever.

Until Richard and Linda transferred into our high school out of nowhere.

Once our rankings dropped sharply, we strangely united as allies. Our friendship grew closer after that.

Still, that four-thousand-seven-hundred-dollar flower bill brought all his childish scheming habits right back to mind.
