I woke up in Pierce’s mansion. 

He was sitting quietly by my bed, reading a book. 

When he saw I was awake, he asked. 

“You’re up? Anywhere hurt?” 

I stared at him defensively. “What do you want?” 

He sighed softly and touched my hair gently. 

“Don’t be scared. What would I do to you?” 

“Tell me the truth- who’s the baby’s father?” 

I clenched my hands. “It’s not yours.” 

He looked down at me. 

“Lila, stop lying to me.” 

“I had the guy you kissed at the hotel investigated.” 

“He’s just an extra. You paid him to act. He was never your 

boyfriend.” 

“You’re pregnant. Why did you lie to me? Hide it from me?” 

“It’s our baby.” 

I asked, “Does that even matter to you?” 

He pressed his lips together. 

“I just don’t understand. We were fine.” 

“Why did you suddenly hate me?” 

“I know you started dating me for the money.” 

“But you fell in love with me too, didn’t you?” 

“We went on so many dates. We decorated our apartment 

together. You tried everything to help my insomnia.” 

“When you fall asleep, you will dream of me and call my name. If I am sick, you will feel sorry for me. No matter how late I 

come home, you will doze off and wait for me in the living 

room.” 

“We did so much together.” 

“I don’t get why you broke up with me out of nowhere.” 

I looked at him and said slowly, clearly. “But Pierce, we ended 

up like this because of you.” 

Pierce gritted his teeth. 

“You’re still blaming me for everything?” 

“Don’t forget that you are the one who ended our relationship with your own hands. I didn’t apologise to you.““After we 

broke up, I kept thinking what I did wrong, why you fell for 

someone else.” 

“Then Lynn applied to my company. She wasn’t qualified at all, but I thought- I could use her to make you jealous, to 

make you come back.” 

“I took her to your store to buy condoms on purpose. I said I never wore them with her, but nothing happened between 

us.” 

“I bought so many boxes just to upset you. I never even opened one. They’re all at home.” 

“The day you said you’d never keep my baby even if you were pregnant… you have no idea how angry and hurt I was.” 

“So I made you deliver condoms to my house. I wanted to hurt 

you back, to act like I didn’t care.” 

“Nothing happened that night.” 

“I lied and said the condom broke just to see how you’d react.” 

“And you wished us a happy marriage? Everlasting love?” 

“Tell me what did I do wrong?” 

Pierce held my hands tightly. 

“Lila, if you’re pregnant, just tell me! Why hide it?” 

“I would’ve taken responsibility!” 

I laughed bitterly. 

“How were you gonna take responsibility? Pay me off?” 

“Poor people are short–sighted, right? A little hush money and 

we go away easy.” 

He went completely still. Panic flashed across his face like I’d 

never seen before. 

“You… you heard me say that?” 

I took a deep breath. 

“Pierce, I’m not like you. I don’t want to play games. I can’t 

afford to.” 

“When we were together, I really wanted a real relationship.” 

“I picked the wrong guy. I made a mistake. I’ll take the blame. I found a way to leave first because I have self–respect. I didn’t want you to throw me away when you got bored.” 

“I didn’t cry. I didn’t beg. After we broke up, I never bothered 

you.” 

“So why do you keep hurting me?” 

“Why do you think you’re innocent? Why can’t I be the one to 

end it?” 

Tears poured down my cheeks I couldn’t hold back. 

Pierce panicked. He wiped my tears frantically. 

“No, it’s not like that.” 

He pulled me into his arms. 

“I admit― at first, I was just having fun.” 

“I was raised to be perfect. My parents taught me never to love anyone, never to let anyone be my weakness.” 

“But after you left… I realized I can’t live without you.” 

“Every night after you were gone, I dreamed about you. Every 

time I woke up and you weren’t there, I wanted to call you.” 

“Sometimes I even thought- having a baby with you 

wouldn’t be so bad.” 

“It would tie you to me. Make you never want to leave.” 

“I think I really… really fell in love with you.” 

“Lila, let’s try again. For real this time.” 

I froze. 

Pierce was begging me to take him back. 

I’d imagined this moment a hundred times. 

But in his arms, my heart was completely calm. 

I finally realized. 

I didn’t want him anymore. 

I’d let him go- fully, completely, in my heart. 

I pushed him away slowly. 

I looked into his red, teary eyes and said softly. 

“But it’s too late, Pierce.” 

“I don’t love you anymore.” 

He stared at me in disbelief. 

I told him, clearly and firmly. 

“Let me go, Pierce.” 

“Never see me again.”
