You Want Me Back? Sorry, Request Rejected Chapter 17

Elise didn’t suspect anything. None of this seemed out of the ordinary to her.

Keith, on the other hand, was stunned. He watched the scene, his eyes bulging in disbelief. Had Mars crashed into Earth, or had a black hole been plugged by asteroids?

Jordan was calmly drinking the soup that he hated most like it was nothing!

As a top-tier secretary, Keith’s professional curiosity instantly went into overdrive.

Jordan shot him a sidelong glance. “You seem very free, Keith.”

Keith smiled. “I just remembered there’s an urgent document back at the office that needs to be signed, Mr. Steele. I’ll get going.”

After lying through his teeth, he bolted from the room. Hector had carefully selected so many marriage prospects for Jordan, yet he’d overlooked one category entirely—married women.

Jordan had practiced restraint for years now. The moment he snapped, he wanted to go for something so astounding.

Keith had caught every detail with his perfect vision. Just now, while Elise was feeding Jordan, he’d stared at her like his eyes were glued to her.

That was when it clicked for Keith. No wonder a man who once took a bullet through the shoulder and still stayed home to tough it out had suddenly checked into the hospital and even had the doctor bandage the wound like it was something serious.

The wound had already scabbed over the first night itself, yet here Jordan was, still in the hospital.

Keith wondered what Hector would think if he knew. He was kind of looking forward to it. As expected, high-society love was just as absurdly dramatic as in the novels.

Elise fed Jordan the soup, spoon by spoon. At the end, he sounded almost upset that it was finished. “That’s it?”

She faltered. She’d added medicinal herbs to the soup, so it didn’t have the rich aroma of pure broth. If anything, it was slightly bitter. By any normal standard, it didn’t really count as delicious.

In the past, when she made this for Rowan and Regina, they’d thrown their bowls down on the spot and spat out every drop they’d swallowed.

“I’ll make more next time if you like it, Mr. Steele,” Elise said.

Her expression was calm and composed as she neatly gathered up the bowl and spoon.

Jordan noticed a few faint splash marks on her palms, like burns from hot oil. His gaze darkened. “No, it’s fine.”

She lowered her eyes, hiding her emotions. “Sir, I still have to thank you for saving my life. Let me cover your hospital expenses this time. When it’s convenient, you can have Mr. Moore send me the bill.”

He stared at her for a long moment, then let out a short, incredulous laugh. “Do I look short on money to you?”

Great. She’d gone back to calling him “sir” again.

“Then… if you ever need anything in the future, or if there’s anything I can help with, you can contact me. I owe you one,” Elise said, a little at a loss.

This was a first for her, too.

He wouldn’t take money, and given his status, there didn’t seem to be anything she could really help him with. To her surprise, however, Jordan didn’t argue this time.

As she was about to leave, he casually tossed his phone onto the table in front of her. “Give me your number, Ms. Stanton.”

She quickly typed her number into his phone and saved it. As she moved to call herself to ensure the number was the same as the one she’d saved earlier, a call came in.

“Sabrina, are you sure you don’t want to eat? The chef made something super yummy today.” Regina held her plate, her face full of concern.

Sabrina shook her head, her face still pale. “My stomach doesn’t feel too good; I don’t really have an appetite. You two go ahead.”

Rowan suddenly spoke up. “I know a really good soup that Mommy makes! Whenever our stomachs hurt, she makes it for us. I’ll tell her to make you some!”

“That’s too much trouble… and Elise is sick, too. It’s fine if I skip a couple of meals,” Sabrina said gently.

“I’m calling Mommy right now. She hasn’t even apologized to you yet. Making some soup is no big deal. How troublesome could it be?”

The soup Elise made was delicious. Rowan was sure Sabrina would definitely feel better after drinking it. He called her right away.

It rang for a long time before finally connecting. Impatient after waiting so long, Rowan blurted out, “Mommy, what are you doing? Hurry up and come to Crestwood Hospital. Make Sabrina some soup!”

The only answer was silence, and the screen showed that the call had been cut off. He stared at the phone, stunned.
