You Want Me Back? Sorry, Request Rejected Chapter 16

Jenny’s slap never landed. Panic flashed in her eyes as she stammered, “M-Mr. Steele, what are you doing out here?”

Jordan was still in a hospital gown, his arm wrapped in a bandage. His cool gray eyes swept over Jenny. Even in this state, he carried a pressure that made it hard to breathe.

His brows pulled tight with displeasure. “Who are you?”

Jenny hurriedly hid the hand she’d raised behind her back and forced herself to keep smiling. “Hi, Mr. Steele. I’m Jenny Langdon, the new hire in the design department. I heard you were sick, so I came on behalf of the department to visit you. Mr. Moore said… he said you were asleep.”

She’d actually pulled some strings to find out which hospital Jordan was staying in. She’d arrived first thing in the morning and had even brought a fancy gift basket. However, Jordan’s secretary, Keith Moore, had stopped her at the door. She hadn’t even managed to set foot inside the room.

She’d been waiting so long she was about to give up and leave when she happened to run into Elise.

Damn it. Of all times, why did Jordan have to come out now?

Jordan had no impression of Jenny whatsoever. His eyes drooped slightly, a trace of fatigue hidden in them. “Oh? So you knew I was sleeping, and you still caused a scene outside my door?”

“N-No, that’s not it.” Jenny’s face went pale with panic.

Jordan’s gaze turned dangerous. “And since when is the design department this free?”

He wasn’t wearing his glasses that day. His brow bone was sharply defined, and under the bright lights, the shadow on the other side of his face only made his features look more coldly aristocratic. It was as if he were above everyone else.

Jenny stared at him, absolutely dazzled, not realizing how dangerous he really was. She even took a step closer, trying to explain. “I–It’s not like that. I was just worried about your health…”

Keith quickly stepped in front of her, blocking her way. “Ms. Langdon, please leave.”

Jenny could only watch as the door to the VIP hospital room shut in her face. She saw that Jordan’s hand was still gripping Elise’s wrist. The sight burned into her eyes. Her freshly manicured nails dug hard into her palms.

She was so furious that she could scream.

Keith stood before the door, silently ranting to himself. He prayed Jenny would just leave already. If she kept this up, Jordan would have her shipped off to some remote overseas branch. He wanted to see how arrogant she still was then.

Meanwhile, a short distance away, Sabrina had seen the entire scene play out from the shadows. She quietly slipped back to her own hospital room without a word.

Elise and Jordan were alone in Jordan’s hospital room. Her heart thudded nervously as she thought about the way he’d acted just now. She said respectfully, “Sorry for disturbing your rest, sir.”

He sat down on the couch, his posture loose and lazy. When he heard how respectful she sounded, he arched a brow. “Sir?”

She thought back to how Jenny had addressed him and quickly corrected herself. “Mr. Steele, thank you for saving me. I wasn’t sure what you might need, so I made some soup and a few pastries to help with your recovery.”

She opened the food container and carefully plated the rich, nourishing soup and the freshly baked pastries.

“It was nothing. No need to be so polite, Ms. Stanton.” Jordan didn’t move. He didn’t say he would eat, but he didn’t refuse, either.

Elise’s gaze fell to the bandage wrapped around his hand and forearm. She froze for a moment, finally understanding why he hadn’t reached for anything.

His hand was injured, which meant he couldn’t exactly feed himself. So… was she supposed to feed him?

When Keith came back into the room, Elise was holding out a steaming bowl of soup to Jordan. He secretly cursed at the sight of this and deliberately left the door slightly ajar. He was sure someone was going to get thrown out in the next second.

Jordan was incredibly picky about food and had a sensitive stomach. He had a private nutritionist and hated drinking broths and soups more than anything. On top of that, he was a serious germaphobe. He never ate anything made by strangers. Plus, he’d already had a full meal half an hour ago.

Elise was triggering every one of his landmines.

Keith stared in a horrified stupor, dreading what was about to happen. He couldn’t imagine what Elise was about to go through. Then, he watched as she scooped up a spoonful of soup, gently blew on it to cool it down, and lifted it to Jordan’s lips.

Keith held his breath. Oh, no.

“It looks good. Thank you,” Jordan said, elegantly drinking the soup. He tilted his chin slightly, a silent signal for Elise to keep going.
