You Kept the Don’s Daughter Waiting and Now She’s Someone Else’s Chapter 11

Luca’s face went pale, inch by inch.

“That’s not true.”

He shook his head.

“It won’t happen again.”

“Nina, I’ll keep my distance from Coral. I promise.”

I let out a soft laugh.

“You’re promising now because I’m leaving. But I gave you chances. Upstairs, I asked you. At the doorway, I asked you again. In that last minute, I also asked if you’d come with me. But you chose her every time.”

Luca’s eyes turned red.

“I just didn’t think you’d actually leave.”

The moment he said it, even he seemed to freeze.

I looked at him, and the last ripple of feeling in my chest went still.

“Exactly. You knew I’d be hurt. You just didn’t think I’d walk away.”

Luca opened his mouth, but nothing came out.

Then Coral’s voice rang from outside the door.

“Luca, are you in there?”

She pushed the door open, and the moment she saw me in the new dress, her face twisted.

“Nina, you actually changed into a different gown?”

She frowned, her voice dripping with disapproval.

“You’re seriously overreacting. All of this over me taking a few minutes to fix my makeup? Is this really worth making such a scene?”

I looked at her.

I used to make excuses for her because she was my friend.

When she said things that stung, I let it go.

When she crossed lines, I let it go.

When she leaned on Luca’s favoritism and trampled my boundaries again and again, I let that go too. 4M

But today, I didn’t.

“Coral. Do you actually think the whole world revolves around you?”

Coral’s face stiffened.

“What are you talking about?”

“It’s my wedding, and you’re fixing your makeup. Every relative is waiting, and you say you didn’t mean to. I remind you about the time, but you say I’m taking it out on you.”

I turned to Luca.

“Are you two going to get out, or what? You almost made me miss my departure time. Now you want to ruin my wedding too?”

Luca’s eyes flinched hard.

Coral’s face flushed red.

“What wedding? What is this with Damon? You’re supposed to be Luca’s bride!”

A cold voice came from the doorway.

“Who she belongs to isn’t up to you.”

Damon walked in.

He’d changed into his tux, black suit, white shirt, a lily-of-the-valley boutonnière pinned to his lapel,

matching my bouquet.

He stepped up beside me, his hand resting protectively behind my shoulder.

“Mr. Russo. And this young lady. I’m showing you courtesy, but that does not mean you can keep acting

shamelessly.”

Luca glared at him, his eyes dark.

“Damon. This is between me and Nina.”

Damon smiled lightly.

“Funny. Now it’s between me and my bride, Nina.”

Luca’s face went sour.

Damon didn’t waste another word. He tilted his head toward the door.

“Show them out.”

Two of the Morretti family’s soldiers stepped forward at once.

Luca didn’t move.

“Nina! Think about it one more time!”

I didn’t look at him.

I picked up my earring and fastened it in front of the mirror.

Through the glass, I watched Luca get escorted out.

Coral was still shouting.

“Nina, you’re going to regret it!”

I put on the other earring.

Very softly, I said, “I won’t.”

At 2:30, the ceremony began.

The music started, and I walked down the flower-lined aislé on my father’s arm.

His palm was trembling slightly.

I turned my head:

“Dad.”

He sniffed.

“I’m fine. It’s just…”

He paused for a long moment.

“It’s just that you’re finally not swallowing all grievance yourself.”

My eyes burned again.

My father patted my hand.

“Let’s go.”

At the end of the flower arch, Damon was waiting.
