He seized my wrist tightly. “Jade, don’t say things out of anger. Give me a chance to make amends.”

I wrenched my hand free sharply. “Fine. You want a chance? Here it is.”

I pointed toward the barred window at the end of the hallway. “Jump out of that window, and I’ll believe you mean every word.”

Enzo’s face drained of color instantly.

I leaned in closer, letting out a cold sneer. “What’s wrong? Scared now? Even mighty Alphas fear death?”

After all, he already had a Luna by his side. How could he ever risk his life for an illegitimate child fathered by a lowly whore like me?

I walked straight into the ward and locked the door behind me.

From that night onward, Enzo became a frequent visitor at the hospital. He replaced Leo’s attending physician with a team of top-tier specialists and settled all medical bills in full.

I rented an apartment right next to the hospital, so I could wheel my father over easily without crossing busy roads.

Enzo would linger outside my door carrying bags filled with luxury toys, yet he never dared step foot inside. His Alpha pride kept him from lowering himself so easily.

After his first round of chemotherapy, Leo looked up at me and asked, “Mommy, why does that mean Alpha keep standing outside?”

I gently brushed his hair back. “He’s just got nothing better to do.”

I would never let Leo find out that Enzo was his biological father.

As days went by, Enzo kept trying to apologize. He even secured an admission spot for me at the prestigious music academy I had once dreamed of attending, yet I tore the acceptance letter into shreds without a second thought.

He dropped to his knees and begged desperately. “I’ll do anything you ask. Just let me see my son.

I kicked him lightly. “Does your precious Mia know you’re here doing this?”

He fell silent for a moment. “It’s over between us. She found out about Leo.”

I raised an eyebrow faintly. “You dumped her? Right after she ruined her whole life just for you? You truly are something else, Enzo.”

“No! It’s not like that-I dug deeper and looked into everything all over again.”

It turned out Mia suffered from severe delusional disorder. She framed my father purely out of raging jealousy. She firmly believed I had passed my exams only because my father had leaked the answers to me. The entire scandal was nothing but a pack of vicious lies.

The moment he finished speaking, my heart thudded heavily against my ribs, once, then twice.
