While He Waited in Aspen, I Married His Rival Chapter 06

On the afternoon of the wedding, the Aspen sky was a blinding, brilliant blue.

On the terrace of the five-star hotel, guests mingled with drinks, taking photos and exploring the grounds. Even Liam’s parents had shed their usual severity, happily pulling Chloe close for a series of photos as if they were already one family.

Only Liam stood apart, frowning at the empty chat window on his phone.

Three days ago, I had ignored both the Aspen address he’d sent and Chloe’s social media post flaunting her hotel suite.

Two days ago, I hadn’t replied to his text ordering me to apologize to Chloe, promising he would “smooth everything over.”

Last night, after he sent three messages accusing me of being immature and urging me to fly to Aspen, I still hadn’t responded.

The more he stared at the screen, the more irritated he became. He scrolled furiously through our chat history, only to realize with a jolt that for the past few months, the conversation had been almost entirely one-sided. It was all me.

A photo of a newborn calf, with the caption:

“Liam, look! Blackstone Valley’s first new life this year. I named her Hope.”

A voice message. My bright, excited voice filled the air.

“I found the perfect place for our vows! Right under the century-old oak. When the sun sets, the light fills the whole valley. It’s as beautiful as a painting.”

And another, dated the week before he moved the wedding to Aspen.

“My parents have started preparing for the ranch wedding. They asked what kind of smoked meats you like. They want to have some ready for you.”
