When the Luna Falls Asleep Chapter 07

When the Luna Falls Asleep Chapter 07

Jonathan’s POV

After that, Chloe and I sealed our mate bond in front of the pack elders. She gave birth to our son, and Lauren and Shane even officially adopted her as their daughter.

Everything seemed to fall naturally into place.

I told myself that since I had chosen Chloe, I shouldn’t have any more emotional ties to Allison.

And yet, every time I saw the lost, heartbroken look in her eyes after she woke up, I couldn’t stop myself from feeling sorry for her.

My wolf refused to reject our mate.

And neither could I.

Whenever I saw how quiet she had become, how much paler she looked every time she woke up, I always had the urge to pull her into my arms.

Sometimes I thought Allison was like Sleeping Beauty.

The only problem was that I wasn’t her prince.

My kiss could never wake her.

That sense of helplessness kept pushing me toward Chloe.

But at that moment, everything suddenly became clear.

I was her prince.

I simply hadn’t loved her enough.

I had wavered.

I was the one who had failed to wait for her.

I should have stayed by her bedside and waited for her to wake up. Whether she ever opened her eyes again or not, she was still my one and only mate.

The person I cared about most had always been Allison. None of us had any interest in choosing family photos anymore.

We picked a few at random and hurried back to the pack house.

When we passed a bakery, Lauren couldn’t wait any longer. She jumped out of the car and rushed inside.

“I’d like a large cake,” she told the clerk. “Pink. My daughter loves pink.”

“And put a Barbie doll on it,” Shane added from beside her. “My daughter has always loved Barbies…”

The clerk smiled warmly, “You two must adore your daughter. She’s lucky to have parents like you.”

Lauren’s eyes instantly reddened.

“My daughter is wonderful,” she said softly. “She’s just sick. And I even yelled at her… but I know she’ll get better. She has to.”

No one responded.

Back at the pack house, the living room was empty.

Lauren hurried to the guest room and knocked frantically.

“Allison! Come out, sweetheart! I bought you a birthday cake. Come blow out the candles!”

No answer.

Lauren’s face instantly turned white.

Her voice began to tremble, “Allison… she didn’t fall asleep again, did she?”

Everyone’s expressions changed.

Without thinking, I slammed my shoulder into the door and burst inside.

The room was empty.

No Allison.

We searched every corner of the house, but she was nowhere to be found.

Lauren broke down crying, “Where could she have gone? She just woke up…”

I tried to comfort her, though it sounded more like I was trying to convince myself.

“Maybe Allison just went out for a walk. All of her things are still here. She didn’t take anything with her.”

Halfway through the sentence, I stopped.

Because I suddenly realized there were barely any of Allison’s belongings left in the pack house.

What was there for her to take?

I kept calling her phone.

Again and again.

But every call went straight to voicemail.

Everyone went out searching for her.

No one in the pack had seen Allison.

By nightfall, we returned to the pack house exhausted and defeated.

Each of us looked lost.

The oppressive silence made it hard to breathe.

Lauren covered her face and cried quietly.

Shane sat with his head in his hands, unable to say a word.

I had quit smoking years ago.

Yet somehow, I found myself pulling out a pack of cigarettes and lighting one after another.

Finally, Chloe frowned, “Stop smoking. Austin’s here.”

I didn’t put out the cigarette.

Instead, I looked at her for a long moment.

“We let Allison down.”

The following days brought no news of Allison.

I sent my betas throughout the entire pack territory to search for her.

Meanwhile, I locked myself in my room, desperately searching for anything she had left behind.

Anything that still carried her scent.

Eventually, I found a notebook hidden beneath the mattress.

Allison’s diary.

Inside were all the fears, anxieties, and pain she had endured since becoming ill.

Page One.

“I’m so upset. I set several alarms and still overslept. I missed my interview with Wainwright & Co., the company I’ve always dreamed of working for. I can’t accept it. Why did I sleep so deeply?”

Page Three.

“Jonathan invited me to dinner, but when I woke up, it was already nine o’clock. He’d called dozens of times, and I didn’t hear a single one. He thought something had happened to me and mobilized the entire pack to look for me. What’s wrong with me lately?”

Page Five.

“The pack doctor said my wolf and I have the rarest form of narcolepsy. There’s currently no cure. As the illness progresses, I’ll sleep for longer and longer periods of time. Why? Why me? I’m only twenty years old! Why is this happening to me?”
